what I consider to be omissions as well. Without that we end up with a lopsided narrative that places one religion on a holy pedestal. No apologies.

He does state that "The US created her own bread-and-butter brand of Christianity which has spread like wild fire in brain-washed African countries." I think he ably conveyed that "brainwashed" African countries ignore the ways in which Euro centers themselves modified Christianity. Clearly, his point is about the cultural modifications possible in faith.
Peyi
But more importantly, it seems to me that his goal was not to cover the entire swath of potential and actual religious brainwashing and imperialistic control in Christianity but to delimit a legitimate area of interest for himself- the hidden imperium in Islam. This is a worthwhile exploration in its own right and does not imply exoneration of evident ills in the history of Christianity, Hinduism or Buddhism.
Surely, folks should be permitted to write about issues in specific spaces without an anxious defensive counter-narrative on its parallel existence in Western encounters, faith or politics.
Otherwise, we will end up consumed by the ill we so frantically protest, a world written by and in western racism and imperialism.

This message originated from outside the Ithaca College email system.
Adeniyi totally ignores the equally disconcerting connection between Christianity and religious imperialism. Perpetuation of Aryan / Nordic religious iconography, de-Africanization of personal and other naming processes, vilification and criminalization of Indigenous Knowledge, conflation of westernization and "modernization," deployment of religion for divide and rule political strategies...... and a host of other misdemeanors, should not be swept under the carpet.
