Sv: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Herdsmen convert Ondo govt forestreserve into militia camp

Illiteracy is not when one has never seen the four corner-walls of a school classroom, but when ones sense of reasoning is shrouded in hatred for his or her fellow human beings. Normal Nigerians know that not all Fulani are herders and most Fulani herders are not criminals just as not all Edo people are voodoo human traffickers, if we are to infer. What is well-documented is that when it comes to stealing of public funds by public officials in Nigeria, there is neither marginalisation nor ethnic discrimination. As we now see it, cross-ethnic public funds robbers have caused the deprived and impoverished Nigerians to become armed robbers, kidnappers and cattle rustlers. Fulani herdsmen are themselves victims of armed robbers known as cattle rustlers all over Nigeria but Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju and his acolytes are attributing all crimes in Nigeria to Fulani herdsmen. As the campaign of calumny against Fulani herdsmen reached the highest point, the Northern Elders Forum chaired by Professor Ango Abdullahi asked all Fulani herdsmen in Southern Nigeria to return to the North so as to avoid being lynched.

That caused Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) to write to NEF and stated among other things, "The Southern and Middle Belt communities have not said fellow Nigerians from the North cannot do business in their areas. This is why we endorsed ranching for cattle business and those who are interested should purchase land from the States. What we are opposed to is creating Federal Cattle Territories in States in the name of RUGA.
We want to emphasise that at no time did the governors and leaders of Southern Nigeria object to or declare war against the Northern Fulani herdsmen who have lived with us for many years." The document was signed by Edwin Clark, South-South leader; Nnia Nwodo, President General, Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo; Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Afenifere leader; and Dr. Pogu Bitrus, President General, Middle Belt Forum. http://www.saharareporters.com/2019/07/17/ruga-adebanjo-nwodo-knock-ango-abdullahi-over-calls-northerners-leave-south-urge/
It is agreed by all that Fulani herdsmen have been in the Southern States Communities for decades practising their stone age culture of wondering hundred kilometres daily with their cattle in search of grazing fodders in the wild growing forest. Apart from clashes with farmers, the Federal and States' governments have realised that nomadic pastoralism is archaic, cruel to human beings and animals. That is why the Federal and States' governments have agreed on ranching and not RUGA as confirmed by Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum. Only fascists would subscribe to the idea of ejecting Fulani herdsmen that have lived in the South for decades back to no where in the North. And despite Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju's non-named eye witness reporters that Fulani herdsmen have taken over Nigeria through kidnapping and terrorism, there are public accounts of how former governors of Benue State, Akume and Suswam built kidnapping empire in the State. http://www.saharareporters.com/2019/07/19/exclusive-how-akume-suswam-built-kidnapping-empire-benue-state/ You are not required to respond line by line as it would be enough to respond to specific questions.

Cornelius and Kadiri,

Its rather late in this history for this histrionics.

I am very capable of responding line by line to the games you are playing.

But the stakes have risen beyond such games.

Eye witness reports indicate the country has been taken over by kidnappers and terrorists, identified by eye witness reports as Fulani.

I will be sharing such news reports and information charting how the country tries to persuade Buhari to deal with the carnage.

As I do that, you can keep questioning the information and claiming to be unaware of the nation wide outcry.

Oluwatoyin Vincent Adepoju,

You hate those in authority in Nigeria – put there by a democratic ballot. You hate them, their ethnic identity, their religion, their cows.

I'm sorry about the recurring nightmare of "Northern Hegemony!" that you wake up from every morning, and that your daydreams are even worse than your nightmares as you are not in control of them either when your eyes are wide open and you are conscious and hallucinating. You have yet to take a snapshot of a Fulani herdsman, armed and dangerous – just one – the very sight of whom you'd most probably pee in your trousers as you run for cover. I mean the very sight of a real Fulani herdsman.

Yes, you hate those in authority in Nigeria – put there by a democratic ballot.

Because of your abiding hatred for Islam and for Muslims, Presidential Brother Muhammadu Buhari is the chief target of your malicious hatred. We all know that as far as you are concerned the Sultan of Sokoto and His Eminence the Emir of Kano whose shoelaces you are not fit to untie, are not only also Fulani but by virtue of their faith are Mr. President's fellow travelers, and of course, this has only increased your hatred.

Who do you think is being referred to here?

"In their hearts is a disease, and Allah increaseth their disease. A painful doom is theirs because they lie!" (Al-Quran)

You could also refrain from misquoting others/ taking cover behind other people. Could you please point out to us where Professor Falola has said in so many words about the objects of your hatred, that he would like "to remove the self declared imperialists from their occupation of Yoruba soil."?

And where did I "suggest" that you"could be working for international agents who want to destabilize Nigeria."? Not even Cornelius Ignoramus or Simple Simon himself could have made such a cowardly suggestion! If anything I would be absolutely sure of what I'm saying and in that certainty would prefer to take the bull, the cow or you by the horns and tell you bluntly that in your very words and deeds you - you yourself - you are a bone fide agent who is hell-bent in dismembering Nigeria - not only advocating that separation in your every word and deed but also praying for the violent dissolution of the country which is at this point still being held together, welded together as it were, by Nigeria's Holy Constitution – which as Baba Kadiri has pointed out to you a couple of times now, guarantees our much-vilified Fulani Brethren, the herdsmen and you too, the right to roam the open country.

Nuff said.

I leave you to the tender mercies of Baba Kadiri

Have we not got past the point  of demands for pictures of the atrocities of Fulani herdsmen?

That was the demand from those who were determined to ignore the reality  when the escalation in their activities began in 2015.

We have reached the point at which the Ooni of Ife, the Alaafin of Oyo, Areonakakanfo of Yorubaland and other figures across the country are declaring the South and Middle Belt have had more than enough of the bloody imperialism of this group. Ex-head of state Olusegun Obasanjo has even coined a term to describe the vision they represent-Fulanisation. Cardinal Okogie has reinforced Obasanjo's characterization and has made it more explicit by describing "Fulanisation" and Islamisation, which Obasanjo also mentioned, as unified through the synergy between Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram.

Suggesting that the situation has reached a breaking point, even such a dedicated centrist and one Nigeria dedicate, an avowed anti-ethnic profiling figure such as Toyin Falola has called for community self arming by Yoruba civilian defense groups such as OPC to remove the self declared imperialists from their occupation of Yoruba soil.

What Falola has urged was long before urged by ex minster of defense T.Y. Danjuma to the Middle Belt, if they did not want to face extinction, he declared.

Well before Danjuma and Falola's declaration, Ekiti state governor Ayodele Fayose had created an armed group in his state, strengthened by an anti-open grazing law, to protect the state against the marauders.

Detailed presentations from such international terrorism and conflict watch agencies as the Global  Terrorism Index have tracked the carnage wrought by Fulani miltia across the years, listing their various attacks and the number of casualties,  describing them as among the deadliest terrorist groups in the world.

The latest is that SE governors are urging the Fulani herdsmen to obey the call by  Northern elders group to come home, so that, as the SE governors state, they can reflect on the carnage they have become associated with.

In the midst of this decisively unfolding scenario someone is playing the old card of "I challenge you to show an authentic picture, just one, of devastated farm, murdered and massacred people by Fulani herdsmen and in which locality in Nigeria"?

We have been on this debate on this group since the 2015 Agatu massacre by these characters.  Recently, Cornelius, your co-traveler, suggested I could be working for international agents who want to destabilize Nigeria.

Yet, all these individuals and bodies who are crying out about Fulani herdsmen's terrorism dont even know  Toyin Adepoju. .

The entire country is like a swollen boil about to be lanced as cries rise from East to South to West to North and you are still in your 2015 position?

What is the point of arguing with a person who insists its not raining even though he is drenched?

Social media debates  have their value but framed in certain ways, their value becomes questionable.

I'm responding to this and at such length partly it helps me relax from demanding work. It has become a kind of grim recreation.

What is there to prove about this reality? The accumulation of manure is so high that everyone is smelling it.

Gradually, the nation wide strong arming of Nigerians by the efforts of the Hausa-Fulani headed state security services arresting people protecting themselves agst the horrors perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen, the disarming of the Benue people and the criminalizing of governor Ortom's efforts to arm a group of rangers with guns like Fayose did in Ekiti, after which the murderous herdsmen persisted in their bloodletting as the min of defense and the IGP blamed the victims for the continued massacre, the failure of Enugu state governor's efforts to prevent the Nimbo massacre by assembling security agents who left the scene before the herdsmen militia eventually struck, El-Rufai's paying off of murderous herdsmen in Kaduna state- all these techniques of nation wide intimidation  orchestrated by the Fulani led fed govt as Miyetti Allah openly flaunt themselves as a wing of Buhari's govt, have brought the situation to a boil.

Cattle colonies, RUGA, any effort to establish ranches for Fulani herdsmen in the south and middle belt, whether coined as as a national livestock scheme or whatever, are all the same ploy, the only outcome of all deliberations by the Buhari govt.

thanks

By virtue of Land Use Act, land ownership in Nigeria is vested in the hand of the Governor of the State who is empowered to grant or refuse Certificate of Occupancy (CFO) to any applicant. Therefore, it must be out of your total ignorance of the constitutional provision about the Land Use Act or, perhaps more appropriate,  out of your pathological aversion for Buhari and his ethnic Fulani people that made you to assert that, "The Buhari govt has busied itself with rewarding the herdsmen with the lands of other Nigerians, while letting them keep to their massacre culture." Where in Nigeria has Buhari's government rewarded herdsmen with the lands of other Nigerians? By the way, do you know that the Governor is the Chief Security Officer of the State and that each State in Nigeria has a Security Vote running to billions of Naira per budget year and which is not remitable? That tells you that if herdsmen should constitute security threat in any State, the government of the State is empowered under the Constitution and the judicial system to arrest and prosecute such herdsmen.

There are many pictures and news reports online of farm devastation, murders  and massacre by Fulani herdsmen.

Its inhuman to keep asking for more.

A Google search for 'Fulani herdsmen' brings up the litany of evil, in words and pictures.

The Buhari govt has busied itself with rewarding the herdsmen with the lands of other Nigerians, while letting them keep up their massacre culture.

That is the best that has been done.

A group of people is committing murder and massacre and land annexation across the nation.

Their kinsman in Aso Rock either ignores or further empowers them and someone counsels-
"the best place to go is write the Assembly members at both State and Federal level and make them accountable for what is going on in those communities.  It will be their duty to make both the Governors and Mr President ( or their representatives) accountable.  And that is how democracy works.'

Emphases mine.

It is attitudes like that lead to the eruption of long simmering rage.

Things are steadily moving to a breaking point.

If the FG set up the NTLP and various committee have been working on it including the technical committee headed by Ebonyi governor I cannot see how the President can be accused of keeping mute over the herdsmen issue.  Its because the Presidency acknowledged that the issue has gone beyond the Bororo state that the NTLP was set up.  In civilian administrations things do not always happen with immediate alacrity and I made this cautionary note at the inception of this administration.

Yes cattle herding is a business and there is the cattle lobby the best place to go is write the Assembly members at both State and Federal level and make them accountable for what is going on in those communities.  It will be their duty to make both the Governors and Mr President ( or their representatives) accountable.  And that is how democracy works.

Alagba Kadiri,
Thank you for your response and the evidences that you have provided.
But you should also know that when faced with the choice of promotion
or demotion or transfer to some remote places, where returns are bad,
our Policemen can parade just anybody for just any offense. I leave
that there. However, I am writing this from my countryside in Ondo
State where I had branched to see my aged mother after a conference
trip to Abuja, Nigeria. I have talked to farmers and have listened to
the tales of how these herdsmen that you claim are saints have
consistently destroyed their farms. Cows eat up farm products and when
confronted they threaten to kill and sometimes even cut people with
matchets. If you want me to send pictures to you I can go the extra
mile of going to the farm to do this. Is this normal in an environment
where food security remains a challenge? I engaged the Kabiyesi till
late in the evening yesterday. He told me of their helplessness and
how the  whole place has been surrounded and that if there is any war
between the Yorubas here and the herdsmen today, the latter will
easily run over the former. He told me about how the Police DPO in
Oke-Agbe, the local government headquarters lack the gut to take on
the Fulanis because of the powerful Myetti Allah Association with
connections in high places. He further told me that contrary to what
obtained in the past where Bororo people live in makeshift huts just
to stay and feed their cattle during dry season, they now have
permanent structures in some of the farms.  I told him the option is
not to fold arms and surrender to these marauders as that will mean
that the future of the community is mortgaged. I have started a series
of consultations on how to address this existential threat to my
people. It is fine for you to continue to pontificate, rationalse and
exonerate the merchants of destruction for whatever reason. You can
also doubt the veracity of what I have just narrated here as you do of
others. That notwithstanding, we will continue to point out that a
President who got elected on the platform of a Pan-Nigerian mandate
has decided to privilege a minority group over others in the name of
ethnic partisanship and religious zealotry. If IPOB can be declared a
terrorist organisation without necessarily serving as threats to
anybody other than advocating  for the rights of their people, I
wonder why the President still keep mute on the Fulani herdsmen and
the incontrovertible danger that they have posed to the peace,
economic survival and human security of the various parts of Nigeria
where they continue to wreck havoc unabashedly.
