As convincing as your scenario seems, going by the same picture, I might also be right if I suspect the assault rifle is tucked under the belly of one of those cows, and that he just might be trying to get to a camp,to drop off his cows in care of another herder, hop on a bike with his thing to go hunt down his victims..

The problem here is simple.
Back in 1990....we did not have this issue of fulani herdsmen, or of them doing robbery and kidnapping
So, what's changed
1.Between 1990 and today, the populaiton of Nigeria has grown by at least 120million people. Let that sink in...120 million people...from 89million as at the 1991 census.
2.The land has not grown...and because of the growing populaiton...farmers are now encroaching into land that used to be free for herders to graze. Even the old grazing routes...laid down in the 1940's when our populaiton was less than 50million...have been farmed or built over.
3.The Sahara is encroaching on our broders. Lake Chad used to be a large and giant lake...now it is a small shallow pool. As a result, herdsmen have to go down south to look for grass....even in areas where they never went.
4.The insecurity in the Sahel region...especially in the North East, and even in places like Burkina Faso and Mali...is making matters worse.
5.Add the poltical instability, and the increasing ethnotribalism in this country...and you have the makings of a large and complicated climate driven crisis.
The solution is simple. We have to end the war in the North East, and we have to at all costs stop the Sahara. We also have to end the era of roaming around with cows. That age is gone. There is no land for free grazing anymore. The rail network has to be improved so that cattle can be transported by rail(we were doing that in the 1960's...now we ain't anymore...)...
We also have to end subsides so that we can attract investment which would create jobs which would lead to an end to massive unemployment, and more incentives to get an education.
It's a good move for Fulani herdsmen to overrun Yorubaland.
For me it's a welcome development.

I simply don't understand the foot-dragging on community policing. If the locals were allowed to police their own neighborhood the likelihood of this type of attack occurring would be slim.
How can the FG expect to police this vast diverse country from Abuja? There's a significant lack of sensitivity to the death of Nigerians from its leaders.
Since the FG has abdicated its responsibility to protect the lives of the people it seems necessary now that local vigilantes should form to secure their community and one would hope that the police and the law would then not constitute vigilante actions as illegal.

If the problem must be solved, we must look above a one-sided mind set. It could be herdsmen, but what will the state government gain if it is true that they have denied herdsmen taking over the reserved land? Reason on what the new chairman of the LGA says, though only two weeks old - she is not yet aware of herdsmen taking over the said land. What will she gain by taking this stand? If she wants to know the true situation, assuming she doesn't, it will not take her a day to find out. Another angle to this criminality in Nigeria is the existence and proliferation of cult groups in all parts of Nigeria. Every village seems now to be a seat of one cult group or the other but since fulani herdsmen issue has been politicised some people may want others to believe that they (herdsmen) are the only ones responsible for all atrocities. Let members of the different communities provide credible information at the right time and help solve these problems from their roots.

I don't understand why you are making excuses for the killer Fulani herdsmen
They have their pattern of operation
It is not every crime that's being attributed to them, but those involved have testified to their atrocities
You asked why some are denying the presence of Fulani herdsmen in the forest, simply they don't want to offend Abuja or be said to be derelict in duty
The new LG Chairman appeared to be somebody not familiar with the environment but came from a big city to become the Chairman
The only people that could be believed are the locals who suffer immeasurably from the Fulani herders

God bless you for this, all I see in all happenings is conspiracy against Fulani herdsmen because any criminal activities going on in Nigeria today is been attributed to them,, an attacks have been reported in rivers this morning, they may even attribute it to herdsmen when they know criminal activities is usual identity of river state cult groups. All the story that have been coming out on the killer of Pa Fasoroti daughter are not even straight forward,, Yinka odumakin said the eye witness say they are Fulani, the driver to woman say the criminal are in mask,, what I still don't understand is how the people in the mask are identify as Fulani,, also a formal senator say in this report that " They graze their cows on the road and strike and they run back to the bush" how is all this three possible at a time,, how are th eyes grazing cow, striking people and still run back to the forest at the same time without trace, will the cow not disturb their movement or they're running back to the forest leaving the cows behind?..
The special forces from Abuja will soon arrest the bandits (not Fulani herdsmen as they will claim) and they will be innocent people. Wither Nigeria!!!
