Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - BREAKING: BUHARI: NO THIRD TERM AGENDA

Oga Afolayan.

I have firmly stated long before this disclosure that I do not believe Buhari can manage such a grandiose faux pax.  Yes like other politicians he may be economical with the truth at times but there are things certain character traits would consider a humiliating climb down.  His declaration was what I expected of OBJ but he failed us by succumbing to temptation ( note Buhari's carefully chosen word ' tempted' because he learned from OBJs error of judgement.

Now Farooq has come with another instalment about  Buharu's nepotism.  I can assert all Nigerian past presidents are guilty of this but perhaps not necessarily with blood tie same town kunship:  that explains why Buhari kept coming back time and time again until elected President; he saw the position as poverty alleviation  opportunity for his township.  What I would find reprehensible is if the appointees were not qualified for the positions.

As for the appointees turning themselves into millionaires and billionaires, this may be in part what Buhari had in mind in his call on party members at the NEC meeting to consolidate gains after he left the scene with hood conduct ( anticipating his own departure.)  If he ((Buhari) hot the relatives job and they could not foresee he will not always be there to protect them from the wrath of the EFCC and they used the opportunity to amass illicit wealth, then they would only have themselves to blame if the EFCC turns on them after his departure.

Yes he will go and respect the Constitution as stated.  What I cant foresee is whether he might come back if his successor is so inept that the country is literally falling apart that the military momentarily seized power hand it to him to salvage the situation and hand power back to a more competent civilian.

This is why I believe the transition to the next administration must be carefully handled to ensure the best technocratic hands to carty on the legacy of this government is elected ( and that may not necessarily mean Osinbajo- if he is interested he has to demonstrate he is the best candidate.)

Oga Olayinka,
Do you essentially believe politicians? Or especially politicians who ar  essentially captives of the office and subjected to myriads of Daura-like influences? Hasn't Buhari said things which he has now turned around to revoking? Is it impossible for him to revoke this sooner than he had said it?

For the avoidance of doubt and the information of the Kperogis of this world who have been insinuating a third term agenda even before the second term was won, Buhari has cleared the air:  he is NOT interested.
