USA Africa Dialogue Series - Professor of African Cultural Studies - University of Wisconsin-Madison

Position Summary: The Department of African Cultural Studies (ACS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks to hire a faculty member with deep expertise in the cultural study of Southern Africa. We will consider applicants with extensive fieldwork experience in any country in Southern Africa, strong knowledge of a Southern African language, and substantial evidence of a commitment to interdisciplinary humanities-focused Africanist scholarship. We especially encourage applications from scholars working in queer studies, performance studies, visual culture, and/or cultural approaches to migration. We will give preference to applicants whose expertise does not overlap significantly with our existing faculty strengths. The successful candidate will offer courses in cultural expression, theory, and fieldwork, as well as introductory courses in African expressive cultures, and perform department, university, and community service as appropriate for faculty rank.

The ideal candidate will actively engage in the intellectual life of our department with diverse geographical, theoretical, linguistic, and methodological interests, as well as embrace departmental commitments to undergraduate and graduate education and engage in significant ongoing research and publication.
