The remarkable Malaysian prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad, age 94, and  re -elected in 2018,  resigns - but perhaps not for good. He may be forming a new coalition.

MM is regarded as spearheading an economic miracle for Malaysia in the 1990s, making it a tiger economy in the view of some contemporary analysts. 

Recently, some economists suggest that Malaysia was never a true tiger economy, even though it had growth rates of as high  as nine percent for almost a decade. It was badly hit by the 1997 crash, and corruption set in as well.

Investment in industrialization and compulsory education did a lot of good, though.
