David,
So much of what shapes our cognition is sound; how things register on that very sensitive instrument within that makes choices, very specific choices, regarding what is for us meaning and identity and value. These sounds are infinite, and through them are meanings that will extend never-ending, if we will just relax and let them create with those inner instruments special and unique to each one of us, the meanings we will delight, sometimes shudder in discovering. You see, it's all private, deep and secure within us; and yet in its way it's very public/ in the open because the evidence is there in the words we choose, in the specfic ways they're chosen by those complex of ordering functions within that operate with fierce independence--guarding their individual territories; as per that terrific inner battle i described in the Intro to Bright Beams; a fierce and defining battle in which the conscious me, is excluded. ...Ann brings back sharply to mind all of that process, and indeed, moves far, far beyond.
Good weather at last; bright and sharp in these final March days of a Sussex Spring. My single Socially-Isolated exposure shortly/ seldom a person to be seen, ie, my morning walkie, as permitted by law. ...Curious. PM Boris, in these increasingly restrictive edicts pronounced, is for this subject/ person who, like most scribblers lives largely within, in fact triggering new thoughts, new openings. How is it working for others, one wonders? No sign yet of riot and breakdown--as predicted by some. ...Perhaps a mis-reading of that which is basic to every true Brit; the result of millennia of training in which active lived life is by gesture, the 95 per cent intense and substantive/ formative rest dealt with privately, within? While Boris of course must closely toe the line that the Yanks/ Trumpie are pressing forward; he is a person, with a mind, when challenged and reaching, as an Oxbridge Classics Scholar and inveterate scribbler and observer, rather ahead of Trumpie in a few important depts. Yet Trumpie is in his "America First" activities applying those skills/ that knowledge much-deprecated by his critics that have enabled him to hold world place with the best of them and indeed dominate still--or so it seems--in those deep dark corridors of savage life successfully negotiated by very few, remains in prime guiding position. In his way, he is as open and adventurous in his base-rooted way, as is Ann Southam. ...And Boris has his contributions to make to this adventurous mix. ...In his way, Boris is in his element. Challenging long-obsolete structures/ values/ beliefs; paricipant in, perhaps originator of this very modern/ true post-modern challenge which could give us all the kick up the backside we need--just as I needed from that special magical rocket kick from Falola I needed to launch myself into that reality life Beyond the Boundaries of thought I'd been toying with since my early years. All interesting stuff I'll ponder as I take my walkie over hill and Sussex dale, and pause for 10 mins or so to do my usual boring but unfortunately effective largely stretching exercises. ...Tea has appeared.
Time for the up. Bloody chilly.
Love, Baba m

Subject: INTERESTING SOUNDS

She died 2010. …I like the link-up of what to me are extra-terrestial sounds, and Ann's take on the reality that moved out of the the orbit of the hard-edged sound and format of the orthodox, …not unlike my training in the rigours of the empirical, then in these later years into my movement into that liberated world Beyond the Boundaries, the Horizon Future, that I had been reaching for since my early childhood and awareness of the existence of alternatives; alternatives that offered us so much more of ourselves, and yet at the same time liberated us from all the tiresome bonds that sought relentless to nail us down to time and place. Good heavens. Took me a bit of time to stop dithering/ playing with substitute toys on the periphery, until finally in these final years I was kicked into my proper maturity, the maturity that was me, by my reality/ mystic intercessor, Falola. I've said a little about him and his extraordinary influence on me—opening the tap—in Bright Beams; Carriers of Light. …Well, in a very loose relationship this is what I find interesting and stimulating in Ann's work. …I expect this re-acquaintanceship is no accident. …It's within a form of relation that really could come for me only when my mind and spirit had moved on to where I am now. …Anyway, should you have a moment, have a listen, to her interview words and the sound forms she brings forward for us. …I'm sorry she's not here to talk to. I like what she's done. But discussion now of course must be the demands of what for me she's stimulated. In a way it isn't reallly necessary for her to be present. …She'd like that. …Sorry to miss you Ann. But thank you. Thank you for what you left us. Thank you and keep stimulating/ challenging us. We need you now. And as our ideas move forward—if we survive the threats of oblivion—we will be seeing more of each other, quite possibly in other worlds.Love to you and Helen, Dan,Ever my Spirit CompanionWhen ventures move beyondWhat cause distress and distancing ofOthers on this our all too brief Earthly voyage.Michael v
