By Chidi Anthony Opara
We are humans,
We dwell in a dingy city
Where oil drilling rigs
Obscure the skyline.
We dwell in a degenerate city
Where oil conglomerates
At the behest
Of state officials
Give out crumbs
To keep us alive
And away from agitations.
The flame of gas flares
Inflame our body infirmities
And the infirmities of our minds,
We are dying slowly.
When it rains,
It rains oil.
When it rains,
It rains black soothes.
When the rains stop,
We breathe
The fumes of pollution.
