Dear GE.
Although many people dont know it, young talented kids taught by parents and private teachers at home can gain admission to prestigious universities like Cambridge and Oxford.
I knew about this possibilities in the early 90s and was gobsmacked.
I read of parents who pulled their son out of school at an early age educated him at home and got him into university at an early age by restricting his access to distractions like the television and keeping him focused.
I was myself privileged to teach a private student from home to get to university when he withdrew from A level classes amid fears he would be victimised by bullies in his former college ( he scored As in the two courses I taught him from home in an externally moderated GCE A levels, went to University and graduated with good honours.
We are not even talking yet of the billions of school children being taught from home across the globe at the moment because of COVID-19.
In the case of Toyin Adepoju he may not fit into the earlier model of genius; he may fit into the second model. There is such a thing as late developers.
If we don't allow him to present his story how can we judge the model he is trying to construct?
