Agreed. This is largely about politics  but it also reveals one  dirty little secret about science, namely, that it is not really  as value-free as some would like to believe, nor is it absolute.

Thomas Kuhn was one of the early

philosophers of science to put us on the alert, in

"The structure of scientific revolutions"(1962).

Is this issue a case of the "law of self-interest" at work? "Compromised" doctors once told us that smoking did not cause cancer. Or, better yet, there was no "solid" evidence to show that smoking could cause cancer. And, the rest is history.
