Kindness

The Holy Book of Islam devotes a lot of attention to kindness. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Kindness is a mark of faith, and whoever is not kind has no faith." The Prophet later breaks this big remark down into various components covering women, strangers, the poor, etc. You cannot attain the ultimate richness of the soul without kindness. It is also linked with truth-saying, the banishment of evil from self, endurance, modesty, the control of anger, forgiveness, good character, the prevention of excessive materialism ("God does not look at your forms and possessions but he looks at your hearts and your deeds."). The Prophet is specific in defining what kindness means:

i.                    "Riches are not from an abundance of worldly good but from a contented mind"; 

ii.                 "The best of houses is the house where an orphan gets love and kindness"; 

iii.               "When a thing disturbs the peace of your heart give it up"; 

iv.                "A good man treats women with honor"; 

v.                 "He is not a true believer who eats his fill while his neighbor is hungry"; 

vi.               "Exchange gifts, you will love one another"; 

vii.              "A kind word is a form of charity"; 

viii.          "You do not do evil to those who do evil to you, but you deal with them with forgiveness and kindness"; and

ix.                "Feed the hungry and visit a sick person, and free the captive, if he be unjustly confined. Assist any person oppressed whether Muslim or non-Muslim."

Show kindness as you fast. Remember those without food, the poor. Remember the sick, the helpless.

 

All compliments, prayers and pure words are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
