Too young to depart at 70! He had been sick for some time but the pandemic prevented his access to medical facility when it was most needed. A descendant of one of the most prominent griot families in Guinea, he learned to play the Kora at age 7. H probably inherited his powerful voice from his mother, Fatouma, a great singer. His musical career began in 1971 when he joined Salif Keita and others in the Rail Band. His 1987 song, Ye ke ye ke, became the best- selling Africa single and rated as No. 1 in many European countries.
