there is agreement that it is spreading faster, but not that it is more dangerous. bbc repeated that, and it's also repeated in the nyt and wash post;

furthermore, fauci said it is probably, almost certainly, already here in the states, but not the major strain which apparently has become dominant in the uk.

it is all worrying, but not as bad as it would be if it were more mortal!

Matt Hancock the Health Secretary has confirmed the figures that are incrementally rising.

For instance Sunday had the largest daily incremental infection rate since the pandemic started a year ago at over 36000.  More than 40 countries have barred flights from the UK

Hancock said yesterday that it is inevitable there will be higher rates in certain parts over Christmas due to family mixing which will lead to further restrictions after the festivities.

Conspiracy theorists say it may be the fin de siecle preparations for the end of the UK membership of the EU in anticipation no BREXIT trade deals will be struck between the two parties and to prevent last minute European goods and people being sneaked into the country before December 31, the deadline:  No one from outside is allowed into the new Tier 4 zone ( London & the South East) while restrictions are in force.

i was concerned in reading about this new strain of virus in london; but read the report in The Guardian, and it denies any large increase or decrease in cases.

also, vaccines always mutate. i am hoping it mutates to a less virulent form, and that that form prevails over the previous one. that's how flus lose their morbidity

British PM and English Tetrarch Boris Johnson has announced a new set of Tier 4 restrictions for residents of London, East England and the South East.

In effect this means residents will spend Christmas alone and cancel restrictions relaxations promised by the PM less than a week ago between December 23 and 27 to enable families meet for celebrations.

The change of policy was precipitated by the rise of a new strain of the virus in the last two weeks that accounted for a rise of between 40 and 60 percent of new cases of infections in the affected areas.  The infection rate of the new strain is phenomenal compared to previous ones.
