Interesting analysis. I started reading the article with the skeptic's imagination but ended as a believer. This is well written. Osuntokun did a good job of interpreting and applying the Yoruba understanding of the Esu phenomenon in line with the Ifa construal to two interesting political communities. Esu is clearly seated at the junction of two socio-political paths smeared with àdí– the forbidden oil of the palm-kernel. I wonder what critics with a deeper understanding of those two political communities have to say. The two central figures (presidents) who are showcased with their feats must be of interest to componential analysts.
