This is uproarious. The background information building up to the crisis in the South East does not add up to this scary genocidal alarm. The Ibo youths started a crisis of a civil war magnitude against their region. Prison inmates of about 1000 were freed when they invaded and destroyed correctional facilities in Imo. Many police stations were burnt, several police officers killed and the various armories looted of sophisticated arms and ammunitions. Thereafter, they went into the orgy of burning INEC offices. These are in addition to the destruction of private properties, abduction and killing of innocent applicants and the general mayhem across the region that saw citizens deserting the streets and abandoning the markets. There had been high profile assassinations too that are capable of setting one ethinc group heavily against the other. Those prison inmates obviously joined the murderous gangs and we can see the mayhem and the orgy of killings.
Where was the above NARRATIVE when all these were happening? From the Senate to the lower political ladders, to the elites at home and in the diaspora, to the elders, the women and the youths, etc, palpable silence had been the norm. Where was the above narrative EXCEPT these acts are being tagged as a Jihad by the IPOB and the ESN. We are really lucky that the North has succeeded so far in holding the reins against reprisals. It shows that we are not at war with ourselves but we are being forced into its introduction by forces inside and outside our shores.
I will find it impossible to join any genocidal allegations for now. We must provide leadership and a restoration narrative that puts issues in their corrective perspectives. This sudden resurgence of herdsmen narrative, with the visible carnages by the mindless youths of south East extraction cannot stand intellectually. What happened to the families and slain soldiers and policemen? In which country of the world is this done with impunity?
It is time to lead a narrative change and bold one at that.
