In History we acknowledge all of the issues you mentioned as contributory factors and that is why we say historical events are overdetermined.
However, we highlight the immediate causes that make current events inevitable. In those immediate causes, the agency of contemporary forces , their choices among alternative actions, determine the inevitable outcomes of events.

Ken,
Whenever I reflect on the causes of
the so-called World War I, I ask
one question: how far back do we go?
The questionable deals
made between the Ottomans and Austria
vis a vis Serbia, in the 19th century? Or is it the
assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
on June 28, 1914? Not to mention all the
other related issues, such as imperialist
rivalry and competition for African territory etc.
In the case of Ethiopia, where did this
conflict begin? With the successful overthrow
of Mengistu by the TPLF -and their three
decades in power? The assassination attempt
on Abiy's life in 2018? Abiy's attempt to
delegitimize the TPLF? The TPLF's capture
of federal troops- the Northern
Command, situated in Mekelle?
There are no innocent babes in warfare.
Tit -for -tat is the underlying logic of war, and
bloodshed on all sides, largely inevitable.
One thing is clear, though, a united Ethiopia
is the best option.

before the fighting broke out, there were reports from tigray of amhara being expropriated and mistreated, among other non-tigrayans. then the u.s. reports moved to present thr tigrrayans as victims with many fleeing to the sudan. i've been wondering how you view this conflict, gloria.

Anyone who thinks that ethno-federalism guarantees peace
and stability, should think again.
