USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: Thought For Today

 Chidi,

Since this is to you, you will find herein no poetic exaggerations.

According to the Bible, there is an essential difference between murderer and killing

Hopefully, as the date of Nnmadi Kanu's trial approaches, Nigeria's social media people will shake off the slumber from their eyelids and start galloping in the name of justice, in the direction of equity. Justice in this case is so elusive because it is so selective, bringing us once more to St Augustine's story of the little pirate captured by Alexander the Great , illustrating the injustice and the true-ism in "steal a little and they throw you in jail, steal a lot and they make you president, emperor or king"

The Nuremberg Trials ( 1945-46) the trial of Jomo Kenyatta (1952) Nelson Mandela (1963-64) The Chicago 7 Conspiracy Trial ( 1970) Steve Biko (July 1975) O.J. Simpson (1995) the Supreme Court hearing of Bush vs Gore (2000) belong to the last century.

You must admit that so far, the trial of this century about to take place in Nigeria is even more significant than the 856 counts of corruption denied by South Africa's Jacob Zuma and the foregone implications of what it means to the ANC's post-Apartheid era after Madiba Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki. It doesn't take the drunken stupor of the palm-wine drinkards and those emerging soaking wet from almost drowning in the rivers of ogogoro , that the counts of corruption that could be made against those running specific aspects of Nigeria's rivers of petroleum assets – the country's wealth, including the oil blocks/ oil wells allotted to the privileged and to the detriment of the poor could run into trillions of American dollars, European Euros, British Pound Sterling, Swiss Francs, not being used in the interests of Nigeria's over 200 million souls.

Shouldn't some of those responsible for the nation's poverty – I mean those already known to be guilty of impoverishing the nation, shouldn't they be on trial? If not, why not?

The 11 count charges of treason against Nnamdi Kanu treasonable felony, terrorism and illegal possession of firearms, among others scheduled to begin on 26th July is going to attract international media coverage, and maybe even broadcast live by Nigerian TV ?

Is it true that Kanu was travelling on a UK passport? Is that what Lord Alton will be bringing up?

The situation a man is in, all because !

It is okay to believe in a person and/or a cause, that is one's fundamental right, but to try to denigrate others who don't believe in what one believes is another matter.

Broadmindedness recommends that we should be mindful of the imperative of divergent opinions.

There are always two sides of any coin.

In any case, how many of Nnamdi Kanu's supporters, including Senator Abaribe are open bon fide members of IPOB?

Since the rearrest and detention of Kanu, how many have tried to visit him and refuse to turn back if denied access?

How many have protested on the streets affirming that Kanu is innocent?

How many post from the frontline and not from the comforts of their homes/offices?

Instead, it is those of us that are labeled "enemies"(because we criticize Kanu's method) that writes and publishes anytime Kanu's fundamental rights are abridged.

Most of the supporter's of Kanu, including Abaribe still holds and/or their close relations and friends still holds positions in the Nigerian system that bring benefits of all kinds to them.

All of them still travel abroad with their Nigerian passports and request and enjoy Nigerian consular services when abroad.

I wish the young man, Nnamdi Kanu well.

When this whole thing is over, he will know his real friends and enemies.
