The British House of Commons is at the moment engrossed in hot exchanges prior to a vote tonight on PM Boris Johnson's announcement yesterday of a proposed rise in National Insurance deductions to fund a £13 Billion bill to reform Social Care and the NHS.
Main opposition Labour leader Keir Starmer said the plan puts Conservative Party's mates and donors interests above that of the working class who would pay more relative to their incomes. He accused the PM of breaking the Conservative Party pledge of not putting up tax increases.
Leader of the Scottish National Party in the Commons described the plan as one for the poor to subsidise the rich.
PM Johnson said the Institute for Fiscal Studies has backed the plan by describing it as a progressive broad based plan He added that the top 40% of the population will bear 46% of the cost of the tax necessitated by the pandemic. According to him no party had the pandemic in its Manifesto.
The plan will increase the tax burden of those on £20,000 by £100 a year, while those earning more than £40,000 will pay £255 more.
