Professor Reiland Rabaka to Interview Molefi Asante
Reiland Rabaka is the Founder and Director of the Center for African & African American Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he is also Professor of African, African American, and Caribbean Studies in the Department of Ethnic Studies. Additionally, he is a Research Fellow in the College of Human Sciences at the University of South Africa (UNISA). Rabaka has published fifteen books and more than seventy-five scholarly articles, book chapters, and essays. His books include Africana Critical Theory (Rowman & Littlefield 2009), Against Epistemic Apartheid: W.E.B. Du Bois and the Disciplinary Decadence of Sociology (Rowman & Littlefield 2010), Forms of Fanonism: Frantz Fanon's Critical Theory and the Dialectics of Decolonization (Rowman & Littlefield 2010), Hip Hop's Inheritance(Rowman & Littlefield 2011), Hip Hop's Amnesia (Rowman & Littlefield 2012), The Hip Hop Movement (Rowman & Littlefield 2013),Concepts of Cabralism: Amilcar Cabral and Africana Critical Theory (Rowman & Littlefield 2014), The Negritude Movement (Rowman & Littlefield 2015), The Routledge Handbook of Pan-Africanism (Routledge 2020), and Du Bois: A Critical Introduction (Polity 2021). Rabaka has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Science Foundation, the National Museum of African American History & Culture, the National Museum of American History, the Smithsonian Institution, the Eugene M. Kayden Book Award, the Cheikh Anta Diop Book Award, and the National Council for Black Studies' Distinguished Career Award. He has conducted archival research and lectured extensively both nationally and internationally, and he has been the recipient of several community service citations, distinguished teaching awards, and research fellowships. His cultural criticism, social commentary, and political analysis has been featured in print, radio, television, and online media venues such as NPR, PBS, BBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, MTV, BET, VH1, The Guardian, and USA Today, among others.
