PROFESSOR AKINLOYE OJO TO INTERVIEW ALAO ADEDAYO
Akinloye Ojo is an Associate Professor in the department of Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies and the Director of the African Studies Institute at the University of Georgia. He is also an adjunct faculty in the department of Linguistics and affiliated faculty in the Institute for African American Studies. His research interest includes applied linguistics and language pedagogy; Yoruba language and linguistics, Translation; African Indigenous Knowledge; and language, culture, and society. He teaches courses in Yoruba language and culture, and African Studies. He was a recipient of the 2010 PEN America/Heim Translation Fund Grant for his translation into English of the poetry of the late Akinwumi Isola. He is a widely published author and recipient of numerous research and teaching awards including the US Department of Education grant for the development of multimedia pedagogical materials for Yoruba language. His co-edited work, Ìlò-Èdè àti Èdá Ède Yorùbá (Africa World Press, 2005) was the first of its kind published in North America. He served as the executive editor for the African Language Teachers' Association (ALTA) from 2004 to 2008 and is a founding member and former Vice President for the American Association of Yoruba Teachers (AATY). He is the writer, producer, and host of the weekly African Perspectives radio show on WUGA, Georgia Public radio station in Athens, Georgia, US.
