USA Africa Dialogue Series - RE: BREAKING: Nigeria's Next Leader Should Hijack One of the Nation's Established Parties: Momodu

GE.

I totally agree with you that Chief Momodu may be the uniter the country is waiting for. How he does it lies the small print.

Im sure he is not thinking of doing the Trump in terms of aligning with the extremists.  I dont know if he will be able to bend either of the dominant parties PDP and APC to his will.  Its to do with the philosophy of governance and its enforcement in the party. A rotten apple will aways be a rotten apple no matter how varnished.

This is why I favour a third alternative party of governance starting from Manifesto level.  The other parties just wont alter their manifestos to favour his predilections.

May be if the vanguard he is sending in to his adopted party is sizeable enough to influence Manifesto changes, it might work.

The suggestion of the APC chair in South Africa is the other practical alternative for me  of the forming of a coalition and rebranding of whichever of the two dominant parties he adopts, leading to a new Manifesto ( and name) of the new party so to say.  The chief is good at PR and hence should be able to work with others to figure a way out.

As my Great Aare ( Chief Momodu's political mentor) once quipped, 'Democracy is not a one man cup of tea.'

We shall have to see.

End the travesty of democracy in Nigeria.  Vote for majority rule at the centre come 2023.

Great summary, OA.

Chief Dele Momodu's  reference point is Trump,
who hijacked the Republican Party and
changed it drastically. To do so, Trump moved
further to the right in the direction of
the KKK and the Nazis and pulled the
evangelicals along with him.
The equivalent move in Naija would be
for the Chief to take an ethnic nationalist
stance and go with the fundamentalists.
That won't work and he would be swept
away in the process.

If he could  find a way to deal with the kidnappers
and  Boko Haram, and restore a level of security
much better than current policy, at least
in his campaign profile, he should be able
to get North and South, and swing the party
in a new direction. He would no doubt have
to dialogue with the militocracy and  follow
the anti terrorist strategy in Mali closely.

But  then there are the other political
Presidential wannabes...........

Best of luck to the Chief. It was an enjoyable
political and intellectual engagement.

For anyone to be successful in being Nigeria's next leader in 2023, they must work to hijack one of the well established parties, the PDP and the APC.

This was the view of politician and publisher of entertainment magazine Ovation, Chief Dele Momodu, while answering questions on the Toyin Falola Interviews.

Chief Momodu stated that establishing structures was crucial to winning the next elections and contesting the elections on the platform of a minor party without adequate structures will be counter- productive.

The publisher identified three levels in Nigerian politics that the prospective candidate must deal with and capture in order to be successful in becoming the nation's president elect.  These include, the area of former military generals and leaders  like OIbasanjo, Babangida and Salami and the level of influential businessmen who hold  the nation's  economy.  The third area of people whose interests must be satisfied he said was the realm of traditional rulers.

Chief Momodu adjudged the APC government of President Buhari a failure and saw the PDP at the moment as a rudderless party where it is not clear who the leader of the opposition was between Goodluck Jonathan and Atiku Abubakar.

He was of the view money will continue to dominate Nigerian politics until a working class party is formed which like the British Labour Party can organise check out from the pay cheques of workers to finance candidates to fight elections on working class principles and interests.

OAA

'Government magic' is when a minority heads a majority party only to pander to minority interests while at the helm.
Let those who believe in majority rule vote for its practice at the centre in Nigeria come 2023
