Filmmaking is a contemporary development medium which can be used in preserving and archiving, promoting and projecting indigenous languages, cultures, heritages and mores of the many indigenous peoples tucked away in the 'peripheries' of 21st century global cinema. In more senses than one, filmmaking is about human development and human development is a story which is told and retold through visual aesthetics for personal or communal edification, enlightenment and education. Thus, film is a window to indigenous cultures, values and heritages which help to shape the consciousness of millions of people in an age where information and communication technologies (ICTs) reign supreme.

Today, a lot appears to be happening in the film popular culture domain among the indigenous peoples in the Global South that has scarcely received academic attention. It is in this realization that we propose a book project titled "Perspectives on Indigenous Language Films in the Global South." The intention here is to give a 'voice' to the 'voiceless', give visibility to the filmmaking activities, filmmakers and their traditions, audiences, among other issues of the so-called cinematic 'peripheries', exploring how they stage and perform their indigenousness through their native films. The book shall seek to underscore the existence of a significant corpus of visual literature outside the Hollywood and Bollywood or Western paradigms. It seeks to open a space to discuss alternative sensibilities, sensitivities, aesthetics, meanings, and contexts in filmmaking.

The articles in the book are expected to address the historical, cultural, social, philosophical and linguistic diversities engrained in colonial and postcolonial realities of the Afrikaan, Akan (Twi), Bahasa Indonesia, Bemba, Benin (Edo), Brazilian Portuguese, Chichewa, Cuban Spanish,  Dagaare, Dangbe, Ebira, Esan, Epie, Ewe, Fijian, Fulani,  Ga, Haitian Creole, Hausa, Hindi, Idoma, Igbo,  Ijaw, Itsekiri, Kanuri, Kasem, Kikuyu, Nembe, Nzema, Malay, Pakistani, Papiamentu, Swahili, Tiv, Urhobo, Xhosa, Zulu, among other peoples and languages scattered across the Global South. Essay contributions to the book are expected to be made by film scholars, filmmakers, film critics and theorists, culture administrators and archivists, language and green studies aficionados, from both the northern and southern hemispheres. Essays should be in 12-point Times New Roman, and 7th ed. of APA referencing should be used. Interested contributors should send in their abstracts to the above emails by November 12, 2022, and full papers by March 9, 2023. The book is expected to be published by Adonis and Abbey Publishers, United Kingdom in the last quarter of 2023.

Of course you did; you certainly did, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your
blow-by-blow response to each and every question, although I'm sure that
your answers were not adequate/satisfactory or to everyone's satisfaction.
Kant being so difficult, what you refer to as your "Kant scholarship",
places you in that special league ( in " time and space")…

Have no fear. Wherever he is today in the "transcendental" that you speak
about, I'm sure that Professor Kant doesn't give a rat's tail what Freter
says about him, nor do his old bones resting in their final resting place
in his crypt at Königsberg Cathedral, Kaliningrad, Russia, do not thrill
or hear your glorifications of him even as you ask Freter rhetorically," Is
Kant's work not worthy of glorification in its cognitive force? "

The way that you feel about Kant is the way I feel - admire, really, e.g. Georg
Henrik von Wright <https://www.google.com/search?q=Georg+Henrik+von+Wright>,
the Finnish guy who succeeded Ludwig Wittgenstein
<https://www.google.com/search?q=Ludwig+Wittgenstein> , took over his chair
of philosophy at Oxford - and as I learned in his autobiographical " The
Myth of Progress"
<https://www.google.com/search?q=Georg+Henrik+von+Wright+%3A+The+Myth+of+Progress>
- which I read in Swedish, Von Wright actually taught himself English in
order to read Wittgenstein! Can you beat that!

About your answers to your interlocutors Baba Kadiri and Dr. Björn Freter,
that's the whole point about philosophy or even poetry - it doesn't have to
be "good" in order to qualify for the title " philosophy" or "poetry".
There's a lot of bad philosophy, bad poetry and indeed bad theology still
making their rounds. You don't have to drink some dirty water just because
you're thirsty - at least no one is compelling you or me or her to do so…

In a similar mode or modus operandi - as I guess you'd like to put it, a
dude, the dude, just about any dude is free to make use of / lean on
Falolaism - or Hitler, as the case may be, just that with the latter, he
can choose to leave out or dissociate himself from the wantonly antisemitic
bits of the genocidal son of a bitch, as in that Groucho Marx
<https://www.google.com/search?q=Groucho+Marx> meme, "*Those are my
principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others*."

More seriously, BTW; I'm looking forward to the possibility of your
engaging with the other Immanuel, this time Emanuel Swedenborg
<https://www.google.com/search?q=Emanuel+Swedenborg> ( my acquaintance with
hi is limited to the first few chapters of his " Heaven and Hell" - in
which I recognise some of the phenomena reported about the early stages of
Kundalini yoga, and a book presentation
<https://www.google.com/search?q=Ernst+Brunner+%3A++Darra%3A+Om+Swedenborg>
at NK by one of his biographers Ernst Brunner
<https://www.google.com/search?q=Ernst+Brunner>, who told us on that
evening that towards the very end of his life, Swedenborg was convinced
that he was the Messiah. There's this Facebook group

Are you not importing your own attitudes to how you think I should study Kant into your reading of my Kant work?

I place your central questions in bold in what follows:

Why is it so important to attach your ideas with Kant?

I'm puzzled as to why you think I'm attaching my ideas to Kant, like trying to graft something on to something that is foreign to it.

I see my reading of Kant as simply that, a reading of Kant.

I examine his words closely, demonstrating what I understand to be their immediate significance and its broader implications.

I don't import ideas into his work to see how they might fit with Kant's thought, even though such comparative exercises have their value.

I start with Kant as my foundation and expand from that point.

Does my Kant scholarship not read Kant closely, rather than grafting ideas unto his work? Are the extrapolations I make not grounded in what Kant is saying, implications it can clearly be shown to demonstrate, even though Kant would not have had the cognitive elasticity, on account of prejudice, or the cultural breadth, on account of limitations in access to knowledge of various cultures, to enable him make those correlations?

I write about African, Western, Asian and Islamic thought as well as doing significant writing that can't be limited to any of those categories, such as my work on female centred aesthetics.

When developing new approaches to extant systems of thought, such as the Yoruba origin Ifa and Ogboni, the Cross River Nsibidi and the Benin Olokun, the divisions as well as connectivity between the traditional system and my extrapolations are not opaque.

Why is it so important to glorify Kant?

Is Kant's work not worthy of glorification in its cognitive force? I glorify other scholars and creatives. Any particular reason there should be a focus on my doing the same with Kant?

I'm responding to the superlative force of a creative achievement, whatever limitations are demonstrated by that force in it's essential nature or in it's less than central expressions.

I celebrate the work of Toyin Falola, Nimi Wariboko, Abiola Irele, Ibn Arabi, Bruce Onobrakpeya, etc.

Why should my celebration of Kant be

Dear Sir,

For a while, early in 1981 in Ahoada, which is in Ikwerre country, as
regular as clockwork, at the crack of dawn I'd hear some crazy guy passing
by my bedroom window and shouting at the top of his voice, " I am the bread
of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in
me will never be thirsty !" - until one morning when I was lying in wait
to accost him and to inform him that he had been disturbing my sleep,
little did I know that he was an innocent ragamuffin dutifully doing his "
morning call" and that he was merely regurgitating what Jesus had said. He
could have been regurgitating Professor Kant musing about his inner mortal
and outer moral heavenly realms, sotto voce…

I suppose that for otherwise rational beings, the special species known as
tall claims more or less all fall into the category of argumentum ad
verecundiam - usually with the claimant either testifying on his own
behalf "I am the last prophet" - insisting that " I am telling the truth
" - "no other prophet will come after me" or appealing to that other
special authority known as " the scriptures", " the word of God" - those
special words e.g. in Hebrew , such as the Ten Commandments - written -
metaphorically speaking by the invisible "finger of God" up there in the
Sinai Mountain - or inspired - breathed into the heart of His prophets -
by God - exactly as my Pastor Samuel tells me, " All scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be
perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

The Resignation of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the State of the
Judiciary

*Press Statement by the Forum of Fellows of the Centre for Democracy and
Development*

*Date:* Monday, 4th July 2022

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, resigned his
appointment on 27thJune 2022 and the next in line, Olukayode Ariwoola, was
sworn in the same day in an acting capacity, as is the practice. The manner
of the resignation – voluntary or forced – and the reason for it –
ill-health or cover up for corruption – have raised critical questions on
the state of the judiciary. Even more important is the circumstances of the
said resignation, the letter from his peers that was leaked to the media.

Fourteen Justices of the Supreme Court had written to the Chief Justice of
Nigeria (CJN), Tanko Muhammad, lamenting the parlous situation in the
court. In this first-of-its-kind protest letter in the 58-year history of
the apex court, the justices chronicled the operational challenges that
have almost crippled the efficient adjudication of cases at the court. The
aggrieved justices led by the second most senior judge of the Supreme
Court, Olukayode Ariwoola, listed the problems to include vehicles,
electricity tariff, supply of diesel, Internet services to their residences
and chambers, and epileptic electricity supply to the court. The jurists
further noted that "we find it strange that despite the upward review of
our budgetary allocation, the court cannot cater for our legitimate
entitlements".

The justices also complained that for three years the CJN withheld assent
to the rules of court, thereby slowing the dispensation of justice. They
saw the situation as "the peak of the degeneration of the Court; it is the
height of decadence and clear evidence of the absence of probity and moral
rectitude." The import of this leaked letter is that the CJN had lost the
respect of virtually the entire justices of the Supreme Court.

Even more disturbing is that since the "resignation", there have been
allegations, rumours and innuendos in connection with the former CJN,
including rumours of bribery and undue interference of his family in the
work of the Supreme Court. Although there is no evidence to back this, the
speculations suggest that he did not resign of his own volition.

We can surmise from these that all is not well with the Supreme Court. It
would be recalled that CJN Tanko Muhammad's predecessor, Chief Justice
Walter Onnoghen, was suspended on the 25th of January 2019, following a
questionable prosecution by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, at a time also
that the residences of several judges, including Justices of the Supreme
Court, were raided by security operatives. There is strong evidence of the
Executive getting involved in activities that interfere with the
independence of the judiciary. In other words, there is a challenge to the
constitutional principle of separation of powers and the integrity and the
independence of the judiciary. The not so hidden hands of the Presidency
have also been often seen in the appointment and removal of judicial
officers. Indeed, the same can be said of the relationship between State
Governors and the judiciary at the state level.

The Forum of Fellows of the Centre for Democracy and Development therefore
make the following observations:

i. The crises in the Supreme Court reflect a significant
challenge with the operations of the principle of the separation of powers
and it is important for all democratic forces to strive to maintain the
independence of the judiciary.

ii. In recent years, several high-profile mid-night attacks on
the houses of senior judicial officers, including justices of the Supreme
Court has indicated Executive agency in the harassment and intimidation of
the judiciary.

iii. The process of appointment of judicial officers, from the
lowest levels right up to the Chief Justice of Nigeria has become
politicised and integrity and competence are no longer core criteria in the
selection process. The outcome is that there is a steady decline in the
quality of judicial officers;

iv. The powers of the Chief Justice of Nigeria are excessive
within the Supreme Court and the National Judicial Council. The same is
true of the State Chief Judges in relation to the State judiciary. These
should be reviewed to reflect a more collegiate approach among peers.

v. There is a very high level of corruption in our society
which clearly has penetrated the judiciary and threatens to compromise the
whole system of justice delivery.

vi. Many judges have become very cosy with politicians and
prominent members of society, and no longer keep to the age-old principle
of maintaining a healthy distance from political and social networks.

Based on the foregoing, the Forum recommends that:

1. Defending and protecting the principle of separation of powers and the
independence of the judiciary should constitute a principal plank of
advocacy by all democratic forces and organizations.

2. The process of appointing judges at all levels, including the CJN,
should be reviewed and made more open with a focus on competence and
integrity.

3. The excessive powers of the Chief Justice of Nigeria in the control of
the Supreme Court and the National Judicial Council should be reviewed and
transformed into a more collegiate system.

4. The conditions of service of judicial officers, especially Judges and
Magistrates at all levels, should be improved and their tenures properly
guaranteed to insulate them from political and societal pressures and
corrupting influences.

We are recommending public private partnership for the authentic nigrrian
restaurant project.
One of the best ways of knowing people is through their food culture
We can export duly certified chefs and cuisine as well

Nigeria is treanding all ov!er
Er the world with regards to literature, soccer, scholarship, sports music
film,religion etc
Nigeria is generating front page news and eeve n taken out full.pages in
newspapers.i mean editorial coverage

Several nutrion and dietetic experts have attested to the many health
benefits of nigerian cuisine
If we would get the american medical association to endorse authentic
nigerian cuisine then its a win win situation

Of course we could also educate and convince the usa people with an Army
of digital marketers

People say that they want to engineer a paradigm shift from the old order
to a new order in Nigeria, yet they are lining behind a man in his 60s who
have been part of the political establishment as a former governor. They
say that he is the best of the bad( by the bad, they mean the two frontline
presidential election contestants).

Meanwhile, there are other presidential election contestants, who are in
their 40s and 50s. These contestants have never been part of the political
establishment and moreover, they have great ideas.

If really you are engineering a paradigm shift from the old order to a new
order, then why not seek out one of these other less known contestants and
make him known (a frontline contestant).

This best of the bad narrative does not make sense.

Karl Marx is buried at Highgate Cemetery, London…

Why Kant? vs Why not?

When the professional philosophers speak, if our ears are not tuned or
adjusted to that wavelength, we do not hear the grass singing.

Thank God, it was not about how many angels are dancing at the head of a
pin or a literary appreciation of Auguries of Innocence
<https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/43650/auguries-of-innocence> to
tease out more of what has been euphemistically described in this thread as
"artistic beauty"

That was a delightful if not entertaining or illuminating questions and

that a question ? Then this is my answer!"( And I don't have to justify
anything. As a freewheeling Independent Scholar unconstrained by academic
conventions, I'm free to do as I please - and to hell with the rigours or
demands of e.g. Routledge publishing )

In my view, should Adepoju ever get around to transferring his
philosophical peregrinations and other mighty cogitations into universal
popular print "The Self-Consciousness of the Anti-Kantian Consciousness
<https://www.google.com/search?q=The+Self-Unconsciousnesses+of+the+Anti-Kantian+Consciousness!>"
would be a very catchy title indeed, hopefully to be matched by the
contents of the improbable three hundred page tome - a title and contents
not to be outmatched by the tittle-tattle of Averroes' The Incoherence of
the Incoherence
<https://www.google.com/search?q=The+Incoherence+of+the+Incoherence>. But
why compare or contrast ?
