Let me get this straight. Putin invades Ukraine because....well, he can. You respond to the unprovoked invasion to help the Ukrainians protect and defend their hard-won sovereignty and your response is branded a neocon fiasco, as if you're the one doing the invading. You don't respond and you're called weak and you risk emboldening Putin to go after other adjacent countries in and outside NATO.
What, aside from repeating the necessity for a negotiated end to the war, which everyone agrees with, is Sachs offering? Is he saying the US and her NATO allies should unilaterally withdraw their assistance to Ukraine and abandon the country so Putin can easily gobble up what's left of it? Or that they should have allowed Putin to have his way?
One of the Left's problems is that once coined, certain terms of critique that should be used with circumspection and precision are deployed in every and all situations, even those whose complexity does not lend itself to such reductive constructs as "neocon" disaster.

you raised lots of questions about neocons in biden's administration, which are valid, and which sachs seems to lean heavily upon as well. it is an important issue, i agree. without supporting the earlier neocon agenda in the middle east, i still believe putin's invasion of ukraine was and is terrible, and ought not to pass unopposed. it is one thing to argue western neocon horrors in iraq and the middle east, and another to say, well, russia is just fine with its own horrors in ukraine, not to mention syria and mali
i find sachs a very reliable source, and he reinforced arguments that more needs to be done to push for negotiations. who would oppose that? but is putin interested in negotiation?we can call this the horns of a dilemma. arguments against nato expansion might well be valid, but not to the point where this war is justified. trying to create a more positive western approach doesn't mean accepting russian abuses and worse.gloria, i try to keep an open mind on these issues, which means if i read something like sachs, i am inclined to listen, to change. for now, i read so much about russian abuses, it is hard to ignore their impact in any evaluation of the situation.

a relatively devastating condemnation of current u.s. actions in ukraine by jeffrey sachs
The Ukraine war is a predictable outcome of US neocon policy.
