If a Rushdie is threatened
And we retreat
Into the sanctum of silence,
If a Rushdie is attacked
And our spirits submerge
Into the pool of procrastination,
If a Rushdie is killed
And we just shrug,
A part of us dies,
Our most essential part
Dies.
