USA Africa Dialogue Series - Another sad note on the passing away of our grand matriarch, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

Last night, Better Half & I had a good vegetarian dinner at the home of Mighty Carlos & Moa - her mother,  their wonderful children Conrad and Adrian., and other guests. Mighty Carlos ( of  Madrid which is in Spain)  - a great storyteller, told us the story of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth  - a great lover of jazz and an ardent fan of Duke Ellington

The Music :

Duke Ellington: Queen's Suite

The Single Petal Of A Rose

Since the sad announcement on Thursday,

Chief Rabbi Mirvis has been awesome, reacting to Her majesty's passing away.

Chief Rabbi Mirvis issues a special prayer in remembrance of the Queen

It was bad enough that AWO was denied a national funeral  on the grounds that as so eloquently articulated by one Chinua Achebe, on the grounds that  the great Chief Obafemi Awolowo "was not an Igbo god!

Good or bad, diversity of honest or not-so-honest opinion being one of the features that brings us together in this forum, eschewing any pretence at diplomacy or  "good breeding", I'd like to register my distress here and now - not later - that I think it is the height of indecency, bad manners, barbarism/ barbarity - what's the difference?  (and hopefully, the most conservative of stiff upper lip Yoruba men will agree with me) that at least this ten-day period of mourning the passing away of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II  is not the most appropriate time to be degrading her memory to being a mere symbol of colonialism, certainly not as the symbolic, de facto and de jure Head of the Commonwealth which she was and its ideals which she served so strenuously to uphold

I'm reacting to the slew  of criticism that has been surfacing here and in diverse media outlets such as The Guardian

Even as we send more condolences to the Royal family, let us wish all success to Britain's new King, Charles III in meeting all the challenges that he will be facing.

  - God save the King!
