Global markets and Celebrities. Amala ,Akara ,Dodo and other matters
Some Nigerian celebrities have tens of millions of followers on social media , the psychology of the youth is such that anything the celebrities own, especially if it is affordable his or her followers would like to have it
Some nigerian celebrities who are amongst africa's most successful artists are now fast moving consumer goods( FMCG) ambassadors, of goods not made in nigeria and perhaps not made in africa
Which means these celebrities are promoting a financial outflow from Africa whereas africa badly needs an inflow of funds.
There must be some products or services in Nigeria which these celebrities can strive to push to the rest of the world.
celebrities might choose to promote tourism, hospitality and Nigerian cuisine. There is Nigerian cuisine like Amala, Gbegiri,Oro,Orombo ati igbin. Sounds delicious? Amala is fast becoming Nigeria's national cuisine. So we learn
Celebrities can also promote , investments or export. in that way they would generate a lot of jobs even for their fans. many of whom are currently unemployed.
These Celebrities need to be approached with a favorable deal for they might not want to do it for free of charge. It's therefore a challenge to the business class.
for generic products like Amala, the Amala producers or the collective of Amala merchants need to foot the bill for the endorsement of the consumption of Amala for the benefit of the whole value chain of the Amala industry.we might for instance begin to have strictly Amala eating places or joints as thy are called this would make for easy endorsement .same with Dodo,Akara and other delicacies from, Nigeria.
