Congratulations Prof Falola for lighting the way in so many ways. May you and your family receive more honors for the work you have nurtured over the years to advance scholarship in the Humanities and especially about the African continent.
Amandla!

--TF has celebrated everyone around him, and now, he himself is being celebrated! The celebration I am talking about is the beautiful write-up of Professor Olajumoke Yacob-Haliso in her appraisal of the recent honor of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) conferred on Ojogbon Agba Oloruntoyin Falola by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari. MON is one of the nation's oldest and highest merit honors, and to be honored with it without being a part of the political apparatus, and no payback or "pay forward" for it, is a testimony to this man we can legitimately call one of us. Thanks to Dr. Adam Clulow, FAHA, editor of Not Even Past for carving the space for the write-up and Professor Yacob-Haliso for the most honest, professionally crafted and beautifully rendered statement. Appropriately titled, "Toyin Falola: Living and Globalizing the Humanities," this is one essay to be tasted, swallowed, chewed and digested, to borrow Francis Bacon's words for treatises that are well penned. I join the academic community and a bevy of friends to congratulate Professor Falola for this well deserved recognition. Finally, the prophet is no longer without honor in his own town and among his people, jn his own house!
Friends: Please sit back and enjoy.Michael O. Afolayan
