i think the real orbit is the global economy, not a nation or national economy.
nations continue to exist, i know, but the extent of their control over their territory has shrunk.
they have weapons, and can fight and kill people. but the decision on the fate of the people of yemen will not be made simply in riyadh, say, but in the confluence of riyadh and teheran and washington, and probably other places whose input i don't know.,
the fate of crimea should be decided by a democratic vote of the people in the crimea, but it won't be.
