A Dream of Publishing
I have had a 35 year Dream of working in book publishing but it never materialised except for a very short time in Ibadan, the publishing capital of Nigeria and then probably Africa. .
i worked with media report projects a one man riot squad owned by Taslim Abiola layonu, now the chairman of the association of nigerian authors, oyo state branch, and chairman of the catholic men"s society, chuch of ascencion, bodija ,ibadan and cchairman,76/81 set ibadan boys high school old boys association, which has , i must add, produced at leasr two chronic book wroms, professor biodun jeyifo,  black studies scholar and my adopted god father, mr modupe oduyoye, who lives in a book shelf and has severally visited the franfurt bookfair in Germany, the worlds largest book fair.
modupe oduoye speaks fourteeeeen languages and reads the bible in strange language,s he is an exegeist whereas his student or rather former student, professor biodun jeyifo, is reputed to hav eread virtually all the prefaces of the books at the then British council libray/
interetingly he was spotted by me coincidentally in the vicinity of the british librauy on the exact day of the second coming or openng of the british klibrary. he issaaid to have read 300 books for his PhD which is small compared to what AGBANI DAREGO<miss world reads in a year. he allowed a woman to overtake him!
let me add the the formot book shop,odusote bookshop is righti n front and opposite the Ibadan boys high schol, which also produced Roland abiodun okojue of the NASA hall of fame. yes! national aeronautics and space administration, USA! hm.Ibadan boys!

some of the leading publishing firms in Ibadan include Evans publishing, they ar largely educational. i used some of the texts, 50 years ago for the first time but its iot lucrative in nigeria to g into publishing because of poverty and the often taunted lack of a reading culure in nigeria .othr publishers are , Book craft, kraft books, book builders, veritas, hb ,university press ,spectrum,safaribooks etc #projects #university
