The media as the problem with Nigeria; not a criticism
,just an observation by Augustine Togonu-Bickersteth,London,England
In My own opinion , MONITORING and EVALUATION of government at the three tiers of government and the three arms of government including the civil service are our greatest problems. Our focus seem to be to much on the presidency whilst allowing others to grow without back bone or the critical support that would strengthen their bones, sharpen their minds and rejuvenate their spirits
There are thousands more of newspapers, magazines, journals and even books to address this problems, it means there are enormous number of jobs
out here that our youths can claim for themselves as editorial,
staff,production,circulation etc
The media in Nigeria is such that there is an obsession for the federal executive or better put the president or the [presidency almost to the total; exclusion of the other arms of government namely judiciary and the national assembly. And other tiers of government, this could be seen as an ENTREPRENEURIAL GAP by investors or by even the unemployed.we do not realy have to complain about it,lets see these as business opportunities because nigeria practices market economy and not socialism. So we should strive to use the ,market to address this pr
problem: we use this in the news reports, views, interviews and features.
Even at these we do have enough of persons who are able to or objectively interpret what government is doing, the benefits, the drawbacks the consequences,
It seems we are still operating on the principle that if you do not hit the government people would not but your paper, now this is the principle I learnt from the veteran journalist segun osoba. He signed my certificate at NIJ, but i think i have to start going beyond that
