USA Africa Dialogue Series - Aregbesola and the seun kuti affair

hee is no space for seun  kuti  at the correctional centres    as some are speculating. . at worst for the offence of street fighting  a nigerian citizen  or anyone at all should not be sent to a place that would damage the psyche or harden  the person.   what we should ask as punishment is compulsory community service  like helping to paint a public building. of course, ugly environments are more likely to breed ugly attitude and ugly ways, thats why two weeks ago i called for the refurbishing of the police barracks in the spirit of architectural determinism and lo behold !only last week, the governor of lagos state evacuated the 25 police barracks in lagos for renovation,
the perception as held of the nigerian police by the nigerian masses might also be something to investigate because perception can win or loose so many things
at this point i want to make a quick message to the chief of army staff:Lt,General Faruk Yahaya  SIR PLEASE BRING BACK THE TEEVISION DRAMA/military comedy  BYTHE AREWA  PLAYERS on SAMANJA . it all about looking at the world through tthe eyes or life of samanja, a rank and file soldier with hopes, aims fears and aspirations. samanja is only human, its a good pat of much needed community relations of the nigerian army as they are in the 36 state,to enhance the relationships, nigerian police can learn from samanja television comedy of the military variety
the correctional centres in nigeria are over flowing with inmates many of them who have spent more time at the correctional centres than they would have served if they had been before a competent court of law.
this seems to be giving,   rauf aregbesola The minister of interior a head ache for good reason  the inmates are becoming agitated  and violent because it may seem to them hat they have just been locked up and the keys thrown into  the Atlantic ocean.
let me add that  perhaps because o the size of the problem ,rauf aregbesola is not the minister of interior but minister of correction because he obviously has no time for fire fighting this fire fighting duty has been out sourced to men like major general lagbaja   GOC Kaduna who organised a workshop of fire safety. the burden of correctional centres is obviously weighing very heavily on aregbesola. God help him.
