USA Africa Dialogue Series - A COUNTRY WHERE THE RULE OF SUPERMEN & CANNIBALISTIC LEADERS REIGNS (1) BY S. KADIRI

Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria (2007-2019) and a Senator in the current outgoing House of Senate, is from a country (Nigeria) where the rule of supermen and cannibalistic leaders always reigns. When Senator Ike Ekweremadu tried to practise social Darwinism and the rule of superman in London where the rule of law always prevails, he was apprehended and sent to the gallows together with two other accomplices. Virtually all Nigerian educated elites and public servants are cannibals/sadists since they live on the resources of the citizens and enjoy seeing their fellow Nigerians suffer. Senator Ike Ekweremadu is not the first Nigerian public figure apprehended in the UK while attempting to practise the rule of supermen and cannibals. Three previous cases of Nigerian public officials who tried to practice the rule of supermen in the UK but were arrested will serve to illustrate the present fate of Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

On September 2, 2004, London Metropolitan Police came knocking at the door in a Marriot Hotel room where the then Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Chibi Dariye was lodged. Various number of different currencies totalling well over £90,000 were instantly recovered from him. Going through his multiple bank accounts in London, it was discovered that since August 27, 2002, up to the date of his arrest in 2004, Governor Joshua Chibi Dariye had laundered in London £2,961,560 (almost 3million pound sterling) stolen from Plateau State. He was granted bail pending trial but he jumped bail and returned to Nigeria to resume duty as a Governor. All attempts to impeach him failed and his eight years tenure ended in May 2007. After series of legal acrobatics, Joshua Chibi Dariye, was finally sentenced to 10 years in prison, in 2018, for swindling Plateau State the total amount of N1.126 billion during his tenure as a Governor. However, on the recommendation of Presidential Advisory Committee on Clemency, headed by the Attorney General and Federal Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, President Muhammadu Buhari pardoned Joshua Chibi Dariye on 14 April 2022 and he was subsequently released from prison.

Another Nigerian governor who cannibalised his people economically was Diepriye Solomon Peters Alamieyeseigha the governor of Bayelsa State from 1999-2005. He was arrested in London in 2005 and charged to court for money laundering worth billions of British pounds but he too was granted bail pending trial. DSPA as the Governor of Bayelsa was then known, Nolly-wooded the British legal system to escape to Nigeria. Dressed like a woman, transvestite, Governor Alamieyeseigha took train on Friday, 18 November 2005, at Waterloo Station in London to Paris where he boarded an Air France flight to Douala, in Cameroon and from there he took a boat to Amassoma, his hometown in Bayelsa, on Sunday, 20 November 2005. He was subsequently impeached, whereby his Deputy, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was elevated to the substantive Governor of Bayelsa State. After his impeachment he was tried for stealing funds belonging to Bayelsa State and sentenced to a symbolic prison term which he served. However, in March 2013, President Jonathan pardoned him.

In December 2009, Justice Marcel Awokunlehin presiding over Asaba Federal High Court absolved the former Governor of Delta State (1999-2007), James Onanefe Ibori, of all the 170-count charge of corruption and money laundering brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). On April 25, 2010, Ibori flew from Nigeria to Dubai in United Arab Emirate where he, like all Nigerian financial bandits and national resources haemorrhage, had bought properties and kept substantial amount of money stolen from Nigeria. What he did not know was that London Metropolitan Police had been tracking him since 2005, when they came across a purchase order for a private jet from Canada made for him through his private solicitor in London. At the request of UK, Chief James Onanefe Ibori was arrested in Dubai in May 2010 and a case for his extradition to UK was filed. On Friday, 15 April 2011, ex-Governor Ibori was extradited to UK from UAE to London where the Crown Prosecution Service filed money laundering and fraud charges against him at the Westminster Magistrate Court. Before his arrival in London, Ibori's wife and sister, Theresa Nkoyo Ibori and Christine Omatie Ibori-Ibie, respectively, had been arrested in London. When his trial began in February 2012, the prosecutor revealed that James Onanefe Ibori came to London in late 1980s and was employed in a hardware store in the London suburb of Neasden on annual salary of £15,000. But in 1990, Ibori was caught, by his employer, allowing his wife to walk through the till (counter) he was manning without paying for goods. They both pleaded guilty at Isleworth Crown Court and were convicted on January 25, 1991. Later on, February 7, 1992, James Onanefe Ibori was convicted at Clerkenwell Magistrate Court in London for possessing stolen credit card that had £1,000 spent on it. Thereafter, he returned to Nigeria where he allied himself with Abacha. As the trial proceeded, the prosecutor revealed that the Nigerian passport possessed by Ibori when he lived and worked in the UK showed his date of birth as August 4, 1962 but his passport with which he was extradited from UAE put his birth date as August 4, 1958. The prosecutor pointed out that Ibori's latest date of birth made him just one month younger than his only surviving senior sister, Christine Omatie Ibori-Ibie. Since they are both of the same mother, the date of birth chosen by Ibori, the prosecutor emphasized, was medically impossible. Furthermore, the prosecutor revealed that James Onanefe Ibori had six different bank accounts in Barclays Bank London, two in City Bank and several others in British Channel Island in which he listed his 4-month-old baby as a director in one of the Companies. Chief James Onanefe Ibori, the former Governor of Delta State, saw the noose of rule of law around his neck in the court and therefore, on February 27, 2012, he pleaded guilty to stealing £50 million from Delta State during his eight years tenure as governor and laundering same in the UK, in order to avert further damaging revelations. On sentencing him to 13 years imprisonment on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, Judge Anthony Pitts of the Southwark Crown Court in London remarked that the £50 million Ibori admitted to stealing might be 'ludicrously low' fraction of his total booty. British police accused Ibori of stealing $250 million (£160 million) https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-17181056
The trial and sentencing of Ibori in London for the same crime he had previously been discharged and acquitted in Nigeria exposed Nigeria as a country where the rule of supermen and cannibalistic leaders reign. It was that kind of Nigeria's rule of supermen that prompted Senator Ike Ekweremadu to lure an impoverished 21-year-old son of another Nigerian man into London with the aim to sever his kidney and transplant it into his own 25-year-old daughter, Sonia Ekweremadu, without any constrain or feeling bad.
