Meet the Honorees! The 2023 Class of Great Immigrants is comprised of naturalized citizens from 33 countries and a wide range of backgrounds. Among the honorees are Indian-born Ajay Banga, the newly elected president of the World Bank, who is leading the organization as they tackle climate change and confront the challenges facing developing countries, and Taiwanese immigrant Ted Lieu, a U.S. veteran and congressman from California who was elected vice chair of the Democratic caucus, making him the highest-ranking Asian American to ever serve in the House of Representatives. This year, the Corporation is highlighting individuals who have fostered opportunities for others, like Betty Kwan Chinn, a Chinese-born U.S. citizen who has dedicated her life to helping the homeless achieve self-sufficiency, and Miguel "Mike" B. Fernandez, a Cuban-born investor, philanthropist, and immigration reform advocate who has launched over 20 health-care businesses, created job opportunities, and supported higher education across the country. |
