Are the Muslim festivals not the rowdiest in Ilorin but not banned? I had lived in Ilorin from 1963-1966 and witnessed several times Muslim festivals as they paraded and danced gleefully in front of the Emir's palace and nobody chased away there and not to talk of being banned.

I'm interested in reading different views on this controversy but I can't find any beyond that of Soyinka and the Emirs palace. Why is the Yoruba traditional festival being banned by some influential Muslims in Illorin? The organiser of the festival also claims she has received death threats in the name of making her not to hold the festival. The only reason I saw in the response from the Emir's palace's response is that it would be rowdy and lead to breakdown of law and order. But the same response from the palace describes another elaborate festival which the palace seems to approve of.--
