I love this idea of augustine's. And for a model i would not look at the functional, austere, imposing, gradiose structures that represent the state in the west, in france and the u.s. in particular. I have not been to japan, but i wonder if they have not a sense of the aesthetic, andnot simply the functional. The grandiose buildings of fascism were modelled in italy, with what we call neofascist now. There are two vietnam war memorials in d.c.: one a conventional celebration of warriors, gross; the other a brilliantly inspired work by a young asian woman architect, that is marked with names and sinks slowly into the earth. It is moving and non-monumental.
I remember early in the years of the university at ife when it was inspired by african motifs. That could be carried to the interior, following augustine's thought.

Nigerian government, potted plants, fine art and interior and exterior decoration in public buildings, private sector and educational institutions. 1 ugly environments are more than likely to promote, produce or provoke ugly acts and behaviour so we should invest in beautiful enviromentso its a win win win situation government at all levels should encourage or legislate the need to aquire pottted or ornamental plants, fine art and exterior and interior decor for the organised private sector, government and all educational institutions.t Those who would ordinarily be sent to correctional centres could be trained as decorators, horticulturists and fine artists --
