Amb. Godknows Igali to Interview Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, August 13, 2023
Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali from Bayelsa State was born on April 4, 1960. He is the current Alternate Chairman of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities. He has been an accomplished Nigerian Diplomat, Administrator and Public Intellectual for over 40 years. After a rich professional career, he was Nigeria's Consul General in Cameroon (1999-2005) and was Ambassador to the Scandinavian countries of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland (2008-2010). During that period, he attracted hundreds of investments from those countries to Nigeria.
In public administration, he was the Federal Permanent Secretary, the Ministry of Water Resources, and later the Ministry of Power (2010-2015). In both places, he left a record of unprecedented reforms, innovation, and outstanding performance. He had served as Secretary to Bayelsa State Government (2005-2007) and as Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and late President Umaru Yar'Adua on resolving the Niger Delta crisis.
He is currently Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and sits on Boards of several businesses, charities and universities. In 2022, he was appointed Chairman Visitation Panel to Federal University, Lokoja. Amb. Igali is an award-winning writer of the book Perspectives on Nation-State Formation in Contemporary Africa. (Sterling Prize for Literary Excellence by US Books). He also has five other major books and over 80 published research articles. He holds a Ph.D. in Politics and International Studies from the University of Venezuela, a Master in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos and a Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Port-Harcourt, amongst other qualifications. His fellowships include the Historical Society of Nigeria (FHSN), the Nigeria Association of Hydrologists (FNAH), and the Academy of International Affairs. In 2005 he was conferred the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
