I'm afraid this is firewalled; a very long and instructive article on china in africa, a topic we've all batted around for years
The gist is that while china enjoys a dominant role as investor and builder, it is not as obvious as that. The amount of investment/aid is largely diminished because of china's own ecnonomic woes. And if china is the largest lender, it is a very small percentage of the overall lending which is largely private (and probably with worse rates)
China is the premier builder of projects, chinese workers often living in reduced circumstances rather than airconditioned hotels. And china's interest is not simply buying minerals, but also influence.
There's much here for anyone into this topic: https://www.lemonde.fr/economie/article/2024/01/07/le-nouveau-visage-de-la-chinafrique-marque-par-une-baisse-spectaculaire-des-prets-au-continent_6209504_3234.html
