An Opinion and Plea to the Government
About 60 years ago, the Joint Action Committee (JAC), made up of several groups of workers, launched a national labor strike in Nigeria from June 1-12, 1964. This strike happened at a time when ministers and parliamentarians received pay raises and workers were ignored. Indeed, this was a period in Nigeria's history when Western Nigeria, and the country in general, was experiencing major political, social, and economic turmoil, which in part precipitated the collapse of the First Republic. I hope that history is not about to repeat itself.
