Wow to Gloria's contextualization
--Let us not forget that the honorableThabo Mbeki agreed to adopt thedevastating, neoliberal policyGEAR, during his administration. This policy enhanced the wealthgap, and indirectly helped to createSouth Africa's Gini coefficient wherebythis country has perhaps the world'sgreatest gap between rich and poor.He ditched RDP, that was a moreprogressive programand against privatization and thecallous "survival of the fittest "modus operandi.
Mbeki also presided over the deathsof thousands during the AIDS crisis. He did not cause the pandemic, buthis response was questionable.
His pivot to a meaningful PanAfricanistphilosophy, later on in his career, shouldbe applauded as a step forward.
