The Trump administration delivers
the best geopolitical and economic
advantage to China in recent years.
President Xi must be smiling even
though lightlyaffected by the tariffs.
Here are six gifts to China by
the man of the deal:
- 1. BYD is China's most successfulEV. Reciprocaltariffs on Tesla, BYD'sgreatest rival, give BYD
- total advantage over Tesla inChina's domestic market.
- 2. International students in searchof an alternative country for
- university education may mostlikely include China
- on their list of options - alongwith the UK, Australia,
- Canada etc.- while Chinesestudents would stay home or go
- elsewhere.
3. Sino-Japanese relations recently
moved to a new level
when not only South Korea, but
also Japan agreed to have
solidarity talks and a rare regional
conversation, on response
to the tariffs. In fact they pledged
free trade among themselves.
4. Taiwan and China may drift closer
together since the Trump
administration seems to care
very little about Taiwan's
miracle chips, or the kind of friendly
Taiwan-American
alliance that Biden and the neocons
tried to cultivate for
their warmongering agenda.
5. Recent belligerent threats to
Canada, Panama, Greenland
and Gaza work in favor of China,
indirectly. Less people
would lift an eyebrow should
China "invade" Taiwan,
considered to be a part of China,
or at least associated with
the ambiguous One- China policy,
during the Kissinger era.
6. European, Canadian and other
tourists to the U.S could find
themselves picked up by the DHS
according to some recent
complaints. The beneficiaries for
the tourist dollars may well include
China. Conversely Chinese tourists
are less likely to visit the U.S.
at this point in time.
"Tariff poker" facilitates monetary"shock and
awe"but not only does it undermine friendly
alliances and trust, but it generates ripple effects
beyond the stated objectives and expectations
of the gamblers.

All this was largely predictable.I can't understand why a person will so commit himself to dismantling his own country's geopolitical advantages. And why such a person will have supporters.Toyin--On Fri, May 2, 2025, 3:51 PM 'Emeagwali, Gloria (History)' via USA Africa Dialogue Series <usaafricadialogue@googlegroups.com> wrote:--The Trump administration delivers the best geopoliticaland economic advantage to China in recent years.President Xi must be smiling even though lightlyaffected by the tariffs.
