USA Africa Dialogue Series - My Experience with AI as an Editing and Storytelling Tool, Transforming Ideas into Narratives

My Experience with AI as an Editing Tool

I'm amazed at the editing power it gives me. I use seven AI simultaneously. It's like working side by side, in real time,  with seven brilliant editors.

I've always known good editing can vastly improve one's work but I previously preferred to rely on self help.

Good editing is a very painstaking job, requiring  word for word, line by line scrutiny.

AI is able to do this for me smoothly, as I compare the outcomes from the various AI with each other  and my own draft as I assemble the best conjunction of word and sentence choice these options give me.

The AI can also suggest further areas of exploration it can provide ideas on.

In an essay I'm currently working on  one of the sections was proposed by and written by AI, with perhaps slight modifications by me.

I use DeepSeek as my foundational editing AI beceause of its unique dexterity with  English and its imaginative versatility.

I complement DeepSeek with ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Grok, comparing their editing outcomes paragraph by paragraph.

This multi AI consultation makes completing an essay slower but generates a mouth watering outcome in the search for immortal sentences and essays of everlasting power.

On completing my essay, I now ask AI to transform it into a story, something I am not able to readily do.

I can choose the setting of the story as well as other variables or just give the  AI free rein.

Ideas are thereby recreated as engaging narratives.

The AI platforms do this by creating characters with identities reflecting the demographics of one's geographical locations and even without prompting, use settings reflecting those locations.

The stories emerge differently with each request to the AI even in relation to the same text I want rendered as a story.

A new universe of creative possibilities has emerged.
