Hope all is well. I wanted to share a new brief authored by Dr. Felicia Russel, titled Absent in the Data, Present on Campus: A Closer Look at Black Immigrant Students in U.S. Higher Education. It was released earlier this week and is attached. You can also find it on the Higher Ed Immigration Portal here.
The brief offers a descriptive overview of Black immigrant students in U.S. higher education, distinct from Black international students on F-1 or J-1 visas. It includes data on enrollment (undergraduate and graduate), institutional type, degree pathways, age of arrival, immigration status, and the group's internal diversity. While it doesn't examine campus experiences or propose policy recommendations, the analysis fills a notable gap by highlighting a population often overlooked in higher education research. I hope you find it insightful and would welcome any thoughts you may have.
Best.
