Independence: Police warn Oduduwa Republic agitators against procession

KINDLY SHARE THIS STORY
Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu

Olufemi Olaniyi, Ibadan

The Police have warned those agitating for the proposed Oduduwa Republic not to embark on any procession on October 1 or any other time.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of South-West, Mr Leye Oyebade, gave the warning in Ibadan on Wednesday.

He said such procession could trigger a crisis, especially at this time when the nation was celebrating its 60th anniversary.

Oyebade said there would be police patrol in the entire South-West states on Thursday, saying the police would ensure that the peace being enjoyed in the region was not disrupted by anybody or group of persons.

The DIG said the warning was from the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu.

He said, "Our parents should not allow their children to be used for any unwarranted procession. We are to guide all key and vulnerable points. This is the independence of our nation and we are not supposed to be fighting.

"Our men will be out on patrol. On no account should anybody come out to disrupt the peace we are enjoying. The police will make sure that nobody is allowed to cause crisis here.

"To those who have been making inflammatory statements, those that we have warned, we have their records. Nobody should do anything to destabilise this nation."

Some groups have been clamouring to stage a rally to demand the Oduduwa Republic on October 1.

Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Complexity of Biafra

i agree w gloria, but there was a bottom line. it was an attempt at secession. the ugliness of war followed, with all the consequences gloria mentioned, but they were not the issue. it was the secession.
achebe had one take on it.
others condemned it because it foolishly put too many lives at risk. it is hard to imagine a secession that is worth the blood of so many people.
imagine it in different terms, but which came to hundreds of thousands of lives as well: the american civil war.

in fact, it is almost impossible to think of real wars that were "worth" it.

Subject: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Complexity of Biafra

"Biafra was waging a war against genocide ."

This is a simplistic, unidimensional view of events, Biko. This was also a war against secession and the machinations of foreign powers who had their eyes on oil  and resources. It intersected with panafricanism, anti-colonialism, Anglo-French rivalry, the  military industrial complex of arms dealers and gun runners, federalism, Ojukwu-ism, personality conflicts, regional power blocs, intraregional and geopolitical power struggles, and a hundred more issues.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA @ 60

Stop cursing our country
Stop hating our fatherland
Stop disliking this great nation
Nigeria is our country
Nigeria gives you citizenship
It gives you eternal identity
It defines who you are anytime

Nigeria is the country of Nigerians
Whatever becomes of Nigeria
Is the handiwork of Nigerians
We hate our countrymen
We live as a divided country
We misuse the opportunities Nigeria provides
Nigeria can never be unNigerian

God has blessed this country
Huge land mass and fertile soil
Natural resources abound everywhere
Good climate and beautiful landscapes
Diverse cultures and rich languages
Youthful population in all regions
People of goodwill and pure kindness

What else do we need as a people
That the country we curse has not provided?
Nigeria has giving us everything it has
Nigerians should fight for its soul
Save it from the venom of tribalism and bigotry
Save it from corrupt Nigerians we chose to protect
Believe in the country that God made you

God Bless Nigeria at sixty.

Feminine fingers.
Fondling.
Flabby phallus.
Luscious love pod.

Her fondling failed
To fire his libido,
To flare his flabby phallus.
Her luscious love pod
Agape,
Failed
To tug him to turgidity.

Her fluid flowed,
His libido failed.
He spewed no semen
And sired no scions,
Their nuptial not consummated.

Years of connubial pretence
And conjugal duties not performed,
The celebrations of impotency,
The anniversaries of nothing.
