USA Africa Dialogue Series - [Naijaintellects] RE:] read -HOW THEY PLANNED TO SPEND THE FIRST USD10,000 !!+ | LATEST UPDATE: Total $6170 (N925500) for Restoration of ZiK'S Mausoleum in Onitsha

Mazi Odera:
I agree with you that members of the Zik's Statue Restoration Cmte dont have to travel to Nigeria (I meant to say: "the Cmte will engage the other stakeholders"); but I DON'T AGREE WITH YOU that a Cmte should go home first before the appeal for pledges; these pledges will not only empower the Cmte to talk fom a Position of Financial Strength and considerable Diaspora Community backing, the home-based stakeholders that the Cmte will engage are also more likely to take the Cmte seriously on the initiative. There is no sense in day-dreaming on what we want to do when there are no signs that efforts are being made to put our wallets where are mouths are! In fact, some of you will even be the first to cry FOUL, that we are going to negotiate with empty pockets and and nothing on the table!

Second, your self contradiction on this issue is evident in your attempt to IGNORE THE ROLE OF OTHER STAKEHOLDERS (i.e., relevant Govt bodies and Zik's faily) in the design of the restoration. It is possible there is ALREADY A PREFERED RESTORATION DESIGN/PLAN IN PLACE that is yet to be executed; dont you think that inadequate consultation may lead to a Diaspora Restoration plan that may not meet the Govt's ordinances or the choice of the family? You can imagine your contradictory thought processes now; and this actually give you up on this scheming effort to duck making a pledge to the project. You are really something else!
Third, Mazi Odera, I advise you not to BE RIDICULOUS to suggest that we dont have jobs or we are idle people; in fact, most of us on this project are EMPLOYERS! If you were smart, you should have realized that depending on the outcome of the Cmte discussion with other Nigerian-based stakeholders, monitoring will be EASY! Nobody needs to go to Nigeria; and even if anybody is going, I guarrantee that the person will pay from his/her pocket; NOTHING FROM THE DONATED FUNDS! Furthermore, you should realize that there are people based in Nigeria who will contribute to this Restoration project and some of them can therefore be incorporated into the Cmte. In fact, there are numerous options available once we start. STAY TUNED!
Finally, I will not respond to your pettiness, insinuations and trash-talks. I REMAIN FOCUSED ON THE ZIK'S STATUE RESTORATION INITIATIVE, encouraging people to pledge and making suggestions for the way forward. Anything else is Efulefu talk! Shikiena! Je-sike and take care. JUI

"With such a POSITION OF FINANCIAL STRENGTH, a Committee will be dispatched to Nigeria to: by JUI" ...........
First out of USD 10,000 they will despatch a commitee of 10 men and women to Nigeria ,come with me ..
Tickets for the 10 jobless wanderers @usd2,000 each =USD20,000.00

Logistic including accomodation,transportation,shacking up ,each person will have travel estacode of about USD1,000 =Usd10,000.

Bringing the total money to be spent on sightseeing to USD30,000.00 ,in that case this fund raiser will be owing the junkets the sum of USD20,000.00 which means another round of levy and collection.

This is the kind of people in diaspora that will go back home to take over thing ? ,they are worse than PDP government.

 Discuss with other stakeholders (relevant Govt Bodies and Zik’s family members) on what we plan to do; +in any enviroment where people reason through the head ,this should be the first step instead of rushing to generate pledges that may be paid or not.

Secondly they do not need to go and meet with all this relevant bodies ,they should,ve sent Email or call them on phone ,that way they can circumvent  the money they will waste on this jamboree.No wonder JUI pledge the money he cannot pay ,he is trying to put his name on the forefront ,so that he will be among those that will squander the ZIK,S and GENOCIDE FUND .

2.     Put a restoration design in place that will include the inputs of all stakeholders;+Why did,nt this be the first thing ?,this and projection should be first before you even think of asking people for fund ,,oooh sorry the fund drive is for the delegates that will travel to see the place ,which means the real fund drive is coming.

This is same thing that has killed every project in Nigeria ,so many people has stake on the spending pattern.

3.     Initiate restoration and MONITOR the progress (and be reporting to all of us);+When i said that they are jobless ,some will think that i am mean ,but read this ,where JUI said that some of them will be on the ground to monitor the progress and report back to them.

[1] Where will they be staying while they monitor the monitor ?

[2] Who will be taking care of their Job in USA if they have one ?

[3] Who will be taking care of their family while they at alaigbo dazzling girls with AMERICAN accent ?

[4] So ,if the job last for 6 months they will stay for 6 months then ?without minding what happens to their job in USA.

4.     Have Completion Ceremony when all is DONE! +This one will need another USD30,000 to plan ,then another USD30,000 to execute ......

JE SIKE! Let’s get it going. I am forecasting $10,000.00 on this drive by Zik’s 106 Birthday (Nov 16)! With such a POSITION OF FINANCIAL STRENGTH, a Committee will be dispatched to Nigeria to:

1.     Discuss with other stakeholders (relevant Govt Bodies and Zik’s family members) on what we plan to do;

2.     Put a restoration design in place that will include the inputs of all stakeholders;

3.     Initiate restoration and MONITOR the progress (and be reporting to all of us);

4.     Have Completion Ceremony when all is DONE!

5.     Explore whether such a Committee can transform into an ongoing Movement in Zik’s Name (Zik’s Society) or a more general Leadership Legacy Society to monitor the memorabilias of Great Nigerian leaders such as Hebert Macaulay, Zik, Awo, Balewa, Ahmadu Bello, Okpara, Osadebey, and who else? (Murtala?); and set criteria for admission of leaders into the Society’s watch list.

Again, I say Sanu D’aiki, Daalu and Eku-ishie!!! Take care. JUI

Diaspora Nigerians want Zik Mausoleum contractors probed

Aug 24, 2010

By Uduma Kalu

LAGOS— As Nigerians in the Diaspora mobilise funds for the completion of the late Dr Nnamdi Azikwe’s Mausoleum, some of them have called for probe of the contractors who have handled the job for the past 14 years.

The Abacha government awarded the contract for the construction of Azikiwe’s resting place shortly after his burial in 1996.   The first contractor was said to be Lemmy Akakem Construction Company but it reportedly abandoned the project shortly after.

Then President  Olusegun Obasanjo government re-awarded the contract to the same Lemmy Akakem Company, but later cancelled it after the company and the Federal Ministry of Works failed to reconcile issues that arose on costs.

This is impressive so far, on Day 8 of Azuoma Anugom's intimation of this Restoration project.  Thanks everyone.  Hopefully by  November 1, we would have raised $ 6,700 ( N1 million), to be REDEEMED in time for November 16, which would have been Zik's 106th birthday.  If we raise N1 million by October 1 (50th Independence Anniversary), then it could be an opportunity to highlight an appreciation for Zik's role in Nigeria's Indepence struggle - among other things.  We might even get some matching funds from Nigeria.

Please be generous. You might wish to:

- increase your pledge; or better yet

- get someone else in or out of Cyberspace to pledge ("Each one get one to pledge")

We will provide details of name to issue check to and address very soon. Your money will be in good hands.

I thank you all in advance.

Note: The date  that Zik's life-size statue near his Inosi Onira Retreat home was unveiled is not known at this time. Latest information is that the statue at the site near DMGS is no longer there - and that there is a head now on the statue at the Retreat site.  More pictorial information has been sought from both sites - to be provided in a forthcoming update.

Stay tuned.
