Ahead of this week's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries to elect candidates for National Assembly elections, indications have emerged that, Maryam, wife of an incumbent member of the House of Representatives and eldest daughter of the late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua may have been offered the Reps ticket on a platter of gold. The automatic ticket given to Maryam who is also a Special Adviser to Governor Ibrahim Shema has caused an uproar in the party Contrary to expectations that Turai exerted her influence to give her daughter the party ticket, investigations revealed that Maryam was awarded the ticket by PDP chieftains still sympathetic to her family. There was a clear indication that the former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland, Mrs Kema Chikwe may have emerged as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Owerri Senatorial Zone ahead of today's primaries. Ahead of the exercise, three aspirants, Chief Anthony Chyma, Chief Emma Ojinere and Chief Chris Asoluka, stepped down for Chikwe. The agreement was reached during a meeting held at the residence of the Board of Trustees (BOT) member of party, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. Chief Iwuanyanwu while addressing party's stakeholders from the zone said that the decision was taken to avoid acrimony among the aspirants during election. He said that the aspirants were not induced or bribed to withdraw rather the step down voluntarily Alhaji Sani Kutigi, son of former Chief Justice of Nigeria Idris Kutigi, yesterday defeated speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Alhaji Musa Ma'ali, in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries for the House of Representatives. Also unopposed is Aminu Shehu Shagari for the Yabo/Shagari federal constituency in Sokoto State. In the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Ogun State, speaker of the House of Representatives Dimeji Bankole became the automatic candidate following the disqualification of his challengers that included former state assembly speaker Titi Oseni. Governor Gbenga Daniel met with the aspirants on Wednesday night where a decision was reached to let Bankole be the candidate. At the primaries ground, Bankole won all 256 votes cast by delegates.
