Dear All:
The saddest thing emerging from the Wikileaks expose is why 'bonafide' leaders of a sovereign nation like
Nigeria find it necessary to bare their souls to some lowly US emissaries in Abuja?
Abi is Nigeria not a sovereign independent country any more?
How much does Nigeria receive in foreign aid from the USA on an annual basis?
The Wikileaks affair shows a complete lack of confidence in ourselves as Nigerians and Africans.
Our proud ancestors would be turning in their graves if they knew what we have
done with the self pride that was turned over to us.
The only feasible deduction from Yayale's claim that UMYA surreptiously transfered power
to him when he was incapacitated is that this emblematic of the current mind set of the majority
of Nigerians- the rulers and the ruled alike.
Nigeria is a nation of non-conformists.
The vast majority of Nigerians do not follow due process as a matter or routine in both their public and personal lives.
They are always looking for the convenient shortcuts!
This lack of adherence to the due process is a major factor in the lack of development in Nigeria.
Nobody cares about the rules any more. Ever since the days of military rule what Oga says trumps
whatever is in the blue book on procedural matters.
Let us begin by attempting to regain our self confidence first and foremost.
There is no need for Nigeria to kowtow to the USA. The USA needs our oil more than Nigeria
needs the USA!
Secondly, let us vow to follow the rules no matter whether it favors us or it does not.
When the due process is folowed to the letter it becomes impossoble to divert
billions of naira orth of pension funds into private accounts when starving aged
pensioners are denied of their hard earned entitlements.
Where are the departmental auditors in the Nigerian public office?
Did they suddenly become extinct? Why are they not catching these easy to catch
simplistic fraudulent transactions? Or are they just too afraid of losing their
jobs if they refuse to look the other way?
Bye,
Ola

My Dear Brother Idowu:
"Saddam Hussein, Gadaffi, Hitler and IBB, Abacha are people that lack self confidence in themselves, but when propped up, later became monsters. I pray and hope that is not the case with GEJ."
I say AMEN to your prayer. However, I also want to note that all the tyrants you mentioned were totalitarians or dictators, not democratic presidents. To ensure President GEJ does not become one of those tyrants, let us start from preparing our legislators to learn to legislate based on their people's needs. It is the legislators that have the responsibility to tame the Executive. The Executive can only execute what the law of the land allows, so I cannot see President GEJ become a tyrant without the support of the legislators. The Judiciary also has a big role to play in ensuring justice is served as the Executive implements and enforces the law!
Start from your constituency by organizing a pressure group that will ensure that your representatives (Senate & HOR) do the right thing for your people. If the governed including you, myself and everyone else can hold the legislators accountable, we can make them work for us, rather than working for themselves. We the people have been complacent for too long. The government is not going to work for us if we the people do not demand that they work for us!
The focus on President GEJ or any of the other Presidential candidates as the all in all in finding solution to Nigeria's problems from 2011 onwards is too simplistic, too cheap and outright lazy. We all must work hard to earn the fair politics that will drive Nigeria in the right direction. From 2011 onwards our focus should be how to make SERVICE and GOOD NAME become the uppermost incentive for running for public office at all levels in Nigeria and NOT the perquisites of office. All of us must contribute to the process.
Be blessed, Albert

| Daniel: Then let us stick with what we all know, the man lack self confidence. So my assertion is a possiblity along with many other factors that we all know may be at work, including someone lying to justify his unsupportable stance. There is no evidence of self confidence in Jonathan today, and that is my concern that evil people that abound in the country will sieze that opportunity to make him a tyrant. Go and read the psychoanalysis of tryants, they fit perfectly well with your description of GEJ. Saddam Hussein, Gadaffi, Hitler and IBB, Abacha are people that lack self confidence in themselves, but when propped up, later became monsters. I pray and hope that is not the case with GEJ.
