Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Fwd: NYTimes.com: Gaddafi Wanted toCreate Immigrant 'Inferno'- Italy

A short side comment ( not about EU & immigration ):

Ancient Libya on the shores of the Mediterranean was part of the Holy
Roman Empire and even before that Empire became "holy " – long before
the advent of Islam or any of the conquest and conversion Jihads of
expansion West from the Hijaz desert through Egypt all the way down to
Mauritania (which is where Saddam exiled his family – to take refuge,
during that his first crisis period with James Baker shortly after his
adventures in little Kuwait when he realised that his ass could be in
danger, even deep down in his Swedish-built bunker.)

That was a one long winding sentence.

The Berber are certainly one of the original people of Africa, more so
than the Arabs and the Italian- Arabs( inevitably, after Libya became
an Italian colony, the colonised population increased.)

When not accusing people of racism, it's interesting how your own
personal definition of Afri-K-an shifts, like the sands. White
Africans, Black Africans. White Libyans and Black ones. And those who
you like to denigrate and call "Mulattoes". You say that Gaddafi is an
African, indeed, beaming with satisfaction/approval you still accord
your unelected, brutal dictator the honorific Imperial / Emperor title
"The King of Kings of Africa" (because he majestically contributed to
Winnie Mandela's defence fund etc. with the Libyan people's money ).To
borrow your phrase, " Those of us who know Libyan history" and even
those of us who do not know Libyan history, know that Libya is on the
Northern shores of the African continental landmass and that today,
the Arabs are one of the many tribes which live in Africa.

Question: In King Gaddafi's post-apartheid Libya which is in Africa
and a member of the Gaddafi-sponsored AU who is an African Libyan and
who is not?

One more thing: How many nations comprise Nigeria?

It's not that Libya needs a strong man because "Libya is really three
nations" and therefore needs some kind of Ozymandias to glue the three
together. Nota Bene: Even Kwame Nkrumah was from a minority
tribe...Another type of political scientist, one not in favour of
strongman tactics and brutal dictatorships, would reason more
practically that Libya is in need of a constitutional umbrella which
endorses Human Rights and Equality of all her citizens before the law
under which all Libyans should be able to live together securely....
