Thanks Mwalimu Bangura for sharing this very sad news about a pioneer Pan African scholar and intellectual.
His work and engagements in the Dar Debates inspired many of us as younger scholars. Along with Issa Shivji, Akilagpa Sawyerr, Wamba Dia Wamba, Okwudiba Nnoli, Samir Amin, Mamdani, Archie Mafeje,Magubane, Adele Jinadu, Bala Usman, and of course the indomitable Claude Ake, and many more others; Dani Nabudere was part of that generation of African and Pan Aficanist scholars(mostly exiles) who held on to the greater Pan African vision and engaged it with discipline and rigorous scholarship and action. Many of them paid the price for their commitment and belief. May his soul rest in piece.
The challenge for the rest of us is reclaiming the paths of producing a rigorous and engaged African intellectual history and Sociology of ideas projects and I am glad to say this work is starting at a few sites on the continent. So, Mwalimu Nabudere and the forerunners and pioneers have not worked and died in vain. Their thoughts and works and those of others like them will be studied and analyzed by our students and heirs.
Tade.
