This report containing a review of the implementation of the recommendations contained in the 1998 report on the causes of conflict and the promotion of durable peace and sustainable development in Africa. The report provides an assessment of major developments on the continent during the past year and examines the implementation by the United Nations system of key priority areas identified in the review report. In keeping with the mandate of resolution 65/278 to develop policy proposals on emerging challenges, the report provides an in-depth analysis of two of the most pressing issues in Africa, namely, "youth, education and employment" and "conflict and natural resources" and proposes concrete and practical recommendations.
