This new UNEP report shows how the planet has changed in two decades – just twenty years - since the Earth Summit of 1992. Based on statistical data and indicators, it shows where the world stands on many social, economic and environmental issues, including the impacts of 'natural' disasters. It considers the three components of risk: hazard, exposure and vulnerability - through the examples of flood and tropical cyclones - and states that increased exposure to 'natural' disasters has resulted from more people living in hazard-prone areas.
